Marvin C. “Muffy” Zastrow age 96 of Clinton, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 9,, 2015 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery, where the Clinton AMVETS will conduct military honors. Casket bearers will be Kyle and Kevin Saddoris, Reid Bowers, Rick Michaelsen, Tom Klahn, and Dale Kruse.
Muffy was born on November 4, 1918 in Clinton, the son of August and Margaret (Hass) Zastrow. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1937, where he was the marching band’s Drum Major. Upon graduation he attended Scoville Business College. He was a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII, serving under General Patton in the 3rd Army with the 94th Infantry Division, 301st Head Quarters Artillery Battalion from 1942-1945.
Muffy married Lois Shepard on September, 15, 1946 in Clinton. Lois passed away in 2004. He owned and operated Muffy’s Men’s Shop on Main Ave. for over 38 years. He was a proud sponsor of many bowling teams and the Muffy’s Rox, a youth baseball league. Muffy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 190, VFW Post 8486, Loyal Order of Moose, Lyons Club, LBPA and the former Odeon Club. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping, traveling, and playing cards. He liked watching sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He made friends with nearly everyone he came in contact with and will be truly missed.
Muffy is survived by his two daughters, Marvette (Roger) LaVaque of Neenah, WI and Denise Saddoris of Clinton; five grandchildren, Reid (Amy) Bowers, Kimberly Saddoris, Kevin Saddoris, Vanessa Bowers and Kyle Saddoris; two great grandchildren, Julian and August Bowers; a niece, Judy Hammen; two nephews, Keith and Ed Zastrow, and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Shepard. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; a brother, Edwin; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
