Clinton, IA Cynthis S. Poblete, age 68 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center North. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Pape Funeral Home. A private family service will be held on Saturday at the funeral home. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date in Oakland Cemetery. Cynthia was born in Clinton on August 27, 1948, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Faur) Holm. She graduated from Clinton High School. Cynthia married Jorge Poblete on December 29, 1979 in Clinton. She had been employed at Kopp’s Market, PFC and later for over 18 years at Swiss Colony. Cynthia enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, going to the casino and baking. She was an Elvis fan and collected cows. Cynthia is survived by her husband Jorge; five children, Lee (Lori) Ray of El Paso, TX, Cynthia Sue Ray Van Horn of Fulton, Stacy Ray of Clinton, Casey Ray (Tim Keister) of Clinton and Cristina (Michael) Maylee of Camanche; ten grandchildren, Mallory, Stephen, Kyle, Alex, Michael, Kassidy, Bailey, Jared, Lila and Benjamin; two sisters, Patti (Ralph) Landorf of Hinckley, IL and Lori (Bruce) Joens of Clinton; a sister-pin-law, Deanna Holm of Clinton and nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Mary was born in Clinton on February 13, 1944, the daughter of Alva and Mary (Huling) Burnett, Sr. She attended Clinton Schools. Mary had been employed at Swift and Company, G.E. in Morrison and later at International Paper for 25 years. She was a member of the Church of the Open Door and Pathways. Mary was a fan of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and her pets. Mary is survived by three children; John (Penny) Richmond of Fulton, Mark Richmond of Clinton and Sandra Hagen of Clinton; four grandchildren, Matt, Andrew, Tamara and Amanda; 11 great grandchildren and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gene, Alva, Jr, Warren and Donald in infancy and a nephew.

Honorary casket bearer will be Richard Kissee. Katherine was born on April 11, 1929 in Hoxie, AK, the daughter of William and Pearl (Hustell) Kissee. She attended schools in Portia, AK. Katherine married Robert Birely on July 10, 1953 in Morrison, IL. Robert passed away in 2007. She was a very active member of the Lutheran Church of Atonement where she was called “Gramma B” by all. Katherine was a homemaker took care of her husband and family. She enjoyed her flower garden and rose bushes and was an avid reader. Katherine is survived by her two daughters, Betty Kracht of Low Moor and Jackie (Randy) Gerlach of Morrison; six grandchildren, Tabitha, Marty Kay, Angela, Anna, William and Katie; two step-grandchildren, Amanda and Aaron; 18 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Whitmore of Walnut Ridge, AK, Alice (Lavelle) Anglin of Hoxie, AK, and Joan Ehrman of Mountain Home, AK and two brothers, Phil (Connie) Kissee of Walnut Ridge, AK and Robert (Sandy) Kissee of Nachusa, IL. Clinton, IA Phyllis Luckritz earned her wings as she passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30th, 2017 with her daughter, son, and sister by her side at the Alverno after dementia held her hostage for the past year. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, July 5th, at Pape Funeral Home. A celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, July 6th, at 10:30 at the funeral home with Reverend James Machen officiating. Burial will follow the service at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her two grandsons, Ryan and Josh VanEvery, as well as her nephews Todd Dierks, Don Dierks, Jeff Dierks, and Michael Kroll. Phyllis was born at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton, Iowa on November 13, 1928, the first child of Stanley and Dorothy Hansen Dierks. She married Robert Luckritz on April 2nd, 1949 Phyllis was the best mom a kid could have ever asked for. She had the kindest smile and as the kids believed, eyes in the back of her head!! She loved her three children, Sandra, Larry and Gary. She always made time to ride bikes, roller skate, float down the Mighty Mississippi in inner tubes, water ski, snow ski, pack lunches to eat in the woods, and have lots of slumber parties. She was a brownie leader, a cub scout den mother, and, living on the Mississippi River, she saw that her children learned to swim. Phyllis was a very busy and energetic lady who did so many things during her life. She worked as an operator at the telephone company with her best friend, Gloria Maskel, and sister, Gwen, eventually working her way up to secretary to the wire chief. While her children were growing up, she was a stay at home mom. She made wedding cakes, panorama eggs, and spun sugar candy dishes, one of which made it to President Eisenhower in the White House. She worked for Bausch & Lomb grinding lenses for eyeglasses and she worked in the billing office at Lou Marges. In 1986, she and her sister, Gwen Miller, bought the Fashion Shoppe on Main Avenue and became proud business owners. Phyllis also became a clown with her sister and they were fondly known as Loony Balloony and Daffy Daisy. She was very excited when they were pictured on a postcard for Clinton, Iowa in their clown costumes and Joey Jalopy. She was a member of the Lyons Business and Professionals, Clinton Chamber of Commerce, WaTanYe, Mercy Auxilliary and a lifetime member of Midwest Pets For Life. Phyllis loved her grandsons, Ryan and Josh and spent so much quality time with them as they were growing up. She would take them on treasure hunts, hikes, picnics, and even came to celebrate their birthdays at Box Tree Farm when they lived in Launton, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. She also adored her great granddaughter, Rylee Anne. Phyllis loved travelling and was able to visit so many wonderful countries. She cruised to Alaska with her brothers and sister and she and Gwen cruised to the Bahamas. She was always adventurous and enjoyed excitement as she rode a zipline over the jungle,and swam with the dolphins and manta rays. She rode a camel and an elephant. She kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland. She attended a medieval banquet at Warwick Castle in England, and she travelled to Europe numerous times. Phyllis was the best wife, mom, mother-in-law, aunt, grandma, great grandma and friend anyone could have asked for. She will be dearly remembered and missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Don) Bartels of Clinton, and her son, Gary (Mary) Luckritz of Tampa, Florida, Grandsons Ryan (Julie) VanEvery of Des Moines, Iowa, Josh (Kaprice) VanEvery of Waukee, Iowa, step grandchildren Dan (Sheralyn) Bartels of Clinton, Iowa, Steve Fye, Dave Fye, and Bill Fye, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shelby (Richard) Peters of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Great Granddaughter Rylee Anne VanEvery of Des Moines, Iowa, her sister and best friend, Gwen (Merle) Miller, brothers, Bob Dierks, Herman (Sharon) Dierks, and Stan (Kay) Dierks, all of Clinton, Iowa, a special friend, Gloria Maskel of Davenport, Iowa, her beloved cat, Smokey who now resides at Prairie Hills as a resident cat in the Memory Unit, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2005, her son, Larry, in 2005, her parents, her nephew, Brent Dierks, her brother-in-law, Wilfred (Brick) Kroll, her sister-in-law, Darline Dierks and her beloved pets, Gizmo and Annie. May the fun and games commence in Heaven when Loony Balloony pedals through the Pearly gates on her Joey Jalopy with balloon animals for all. Phyllis’ family would like to thank The Alverno, Prairie Hills, the nurses, staff, and residents who shared their lives with her these last few years. Also thank you to Dr. Barakat and Genesis Hospice for keeping her comfortable as she made the transition from here to Heaven. Each and every one of you played such an important role with your smiles, your visits, and the care and compassion you showed her. And thank you to Prairie Hills for allowing her beloved cat, Smokey to continue residing in the memory unit where he provides, love, companionship, and comfort to all. Clinton, Iowa Gary F. Nixon, age 75, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at his home. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Gary was born in Clinton on October 27, 1941, the son of Ervin and Virginia (Young) Nixon. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1960 and attended the University of Iowa. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. Gary met Colleen Murphy while singing in the choir at St. Mary’s Church and married her on June 1, 1984 at St. Mary’s. Gary had been a meat cutter at several different grocery stores. He was later employed for over 20 years at E.I. DuPont. He was a member of Prince of Peace Church and the Knights of Columbus. Gary enjoyed chatting with old friends over good coffee. He was an avid newspaper reader and appreciated all types of music. He liked taking neighborhood walks with the family dog, Sunshine, and following the Clinton Lumberkings. Gary is survived by his wife Colleen; a daughter, Bridget (fiancé Steve Konrady) Nixon of Des Moines; two sisters, Juleen Barrows of Camanche and Therese (Roger) Shaw of Clinton; a brother, Michael (Sydney) Nixon of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He married Georgia Kaufman Linder on July 13, 1963 in Camanche. He owned and operated Robert Null Trucking and Excavating for over 40 years. Robert enjoyed working with a lot of his local contractors. Robert is survived by his wife, Georgia Null of Camanche; his son, Andrew (Kathleen) Linder of Clinton; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Delores Greve of Clinton, Louella Rose, Pamela Norris, and Jackie (Tim) Sachemaier all of Camanche; his sister-in-law, Laura Null of Camanche; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Michael and Ricky, two daughters, Pamela and Debra, a brother, Donald, and a brother-in-law, Courtland Greve.

Clinton, IA Bernard J. Wagemester age 78 of rural Clinton, passed away Saturday June 24, 2017 at Mercy Living Center North. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday June 29th at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Wednesday June 28th at Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. Bernard was born on December 14, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Joseph and Clara (Boehmer) Wagemester. He attended Hampshire #3 County School. He married Janis Paulsen on September 9, 1959 in Clinton, Iowa. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming while he served in the U.S. Air Force as head cook. Bernard and Janis created many wonderful memories traveling and site seeing out West during this time. Bernard spent the remainder of his life engaged in farming. He had a deep passion for the farm, a remarkable work ethic and just plain loved to farm. Of all the work he enjoyed feeding cattle the most. He loved to share the farm experience and teach anyone willing to learn and work about the farm. He was a kind hearted, patient man who gave more than he received. He also enjoyed polka dancing at local dance halls, vacationing in Florida to visit his brother in law, family functions and cooking. He was very sociable and enjoyed long visits with many friends. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and Prognosticators. Those left to honor Bernard’s memory include his wife Janis of 57 years. Three sisters; Bernice Mootz of DeWitt, Viola(Paul) Frett of Maquoketa, and Joanne (Jim) Diehl of Elizabeth, IL. Two brothers; Ed (Ardith) Wagemester of DeWitt and Robert (Donna) Wagemester of Clinton; 15 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Lucille Wagemester, Mary Frett and Rosemary Wagemester and a brother-in-law Emil Mootz. Memorials may be given to the Prince of Peace Hall Building Fund.

Clinton, IA Eugene L. “Gene” Stevenson age 76 of Clinton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton following a long battle with cancer. In following his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. with a luncheon to follow at Prince of Peace Parish. A private burial will be at a later date. Gene was born in Clinton on April 22, 1941, the son of Robert L. and Dorothy (Dunn) Stevenson. He graduated from Clinton High School and attended Clinton Community College. He served with the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, stationed in Germany. Gene married Barbara Vilmont on June 30, 1978 in Sacred Heart Church, Clinton. He was employed at E. I. DuPont for 32 years. He was a member of the Eagle’s Club. Gene was an avid reader, historian, and proud grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and following the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Gene is survived by his wife Barbara; two daughters, Kathryn (John) TeRonde and beloved granddaughter Julia and Sara Stevenson both of Denver, CO; a son, Michael D. Stevenson of Denver; a brother, Robert Stevenson of Camanche and brothers and sisters-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special grandfather, Eugene Dunn. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Aggarwal, his care team at Medical Associates, and Carrie Schultheis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Friends of the Clinton Public Library.

She worked as a private duty Registered Nurse for many years and finished her career as a nurse at the former Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton, where she retired. Amy was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, an avid reader, and going to the casino. Amy is survived by her five children, Becky (Wayne) Gluesing of Clinton, Jeffrey Dierks of Clinton, Dr. Elizabeth (J. Spencer) Craig of Paris, TN, Maurice “Moe” (Linda) Dierks of Davenport, and Roberta Peltier of Iowa City; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; her sister, Yvonne Simpson of Batavia, IL; a brother, Sam McKenrick of Clinton; four nieces and a nephew. Born in Clinton, Iowa Mrs. Freund was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Vivian Peek Hurlburt. Dorothy married Omer S. Freund on November 20, 1947. Omer passed away on April 7, 2012. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include her son, Stephen Freund and his wife, Susana, Burns, TN; her daughter, Bernadette Clausen and her husband, Robert, Russellville, KY; grandchildren, Jamie Pieper, Jennifer Conard, Vanessa Pickart, Jessica Stewart, and Christopher Freund; great-grandchildren, Garrett Conard, Noah Conard, Caroline Pickart, Alex Pickart, Everett Stewart, Harper Stewart, Dalton Stewart, Hudson Stewart, and Penelope Freund. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
