Clinton, IA Eileen S. Runge, age 64, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center North. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Fulton. Honorary pallbearers are her nieces and nephews, Cathy Barten, Jim Novonty, Amy Beveridge, Emily McKeand, Jessica Alt, Tricia Sheridan, Erin Sheridan and Christopher Sheridan. Eileen was born in Clinton on May 3, 1953, the daughter of Dominic and Eileen (Green) Sheridan. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1971. Eileen married James Runge on September 19, 1980 in Clinton. Eileen was employed with Fidelity Life in Fulton, Kemper Life in Cary, IL, Sheridan Bookkeeping in Fulton and as an inspector with McCray Inspection Services in Clinton. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Duck’s Unlimited. Eileen enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and liked to aquacise at the YWCA. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes. Eileen is survived by her husband Jim; a step-daughter, Julie (Dennis) Fehrenbach of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Max; two sisters, Mary (Leonard) Novotny of Western Springs, IL and Kathleen (Dave) Harrison of Morrison; a brother, William (Linda) Sheridan of Lansing, NC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James in infancy and a brother, Patrick.

Morrison, IL Donald E. “Don” Nice, age 69 of Morrison, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In following Don’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded thru the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. A gathering of memories will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Bosma Funeral Home in Morrison. Burial will be at a later dated at the Bass Motel, Clam Lake, Siren, Wisconsin. Memorials in Don’s name may be made to Home of Hope or the Rock River Hospice. Don was born in Whiteside County on October 27, 1947, the son of Ellsworth and Marian Eleanor (Dykhuizen) Nice. He graduated from Morrison High School and received his apprentice education thru General Electric. He married Patricia Dunk on August 4, 1967 in Clinton. Don was an engineer at General Electric in Morrison until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling on Monday’s and Tuesday’s as well as golfing with his father. He enjoyed fishing and boating on the Mississippi. Don was a member of the 700 Bowling Club, the G.E. Men’s Club, the G.E. Golf League, Sterling/Rock Falls Horseshoe League and archery clubs with his wife. Don is survived by his wife, Patty; two children, Scott Nice and his loving companion, Ann Bittner of Sioux Falls, SD and Jamie Le (Braeden) Ward of Milwaukee; three grandchildren, Sabra Brea (Simion) Gilbert of Lincoln, NB, Storme (Jordan) Luna of Lennox, SD and Stellen Nice of Lennox, SD; three sisters, Janice (David) Mayes, Patricia (Darrell) “Growler” Onken and Kathy (Tom) Anderson all of Morrison. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elaine Ballard and Lorraine Geesey.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday May 21, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Pape Funeral Home, 2308 Pershing Blvd Clinton, Iowa. Sandra was born July 6, 1954 in Clinton, Iowa and was the daughter of Fred (Diddy) and Alice ( Hannafan) Kohl Dever. She graduated from Clinton High School. Sandra served in the US Army for 10 years and was based in Seattle, WA. She was also a Veterinary Technician. Sandra is survived by her mother Alice Hannafan Kohl Dever, two sisters, one brother and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Fred Kohl; stepfather John (Russ) Dever; a sister and four brothers. Memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family.

Clinton, IA Shirley A. Sheridan, 94 of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to11:30 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton, Il. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Cemetery in Clinton Iowa. Pallbearers will be Gary Seffrin, Joe VanderBeke, Adrian Alva, Mark Griswold, Pat Griswold and Dan Schmidt. Memorials may be directed to the Kahl Home of Davenport, Iowa. Shirley was born on November 20, 1922 the daughter of Henry and Mayme (Mulligan) Griswold. She graduated from Our Lady of Angels and attended Mt. St. Clare College and Clinton Community College. She was united in marriage to Paul J. Sheridan on September 13, 1947 at St. Boniface Church, Clinton, Iowa. Paul passed away on January 8th, 2001. Shirley worked as a medical assistant and technician at Schick Hospital. She assisted in establishing the Varney Senior Citizens Center and Activities. She retired in 1993 after 18 years at the Clinton County Auditor’s Office. She was an active member in the Catholic Church teaching religious education. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Boniface and St. Irenaeus. She chaired the monthly Senior Citizens Card Party at St. Irenaeus and was a Cub Scout leader and PTA volunteer. In her earlier days, she was an accomplished tennis player, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her Lhasa Apso, Muffin. Shirley cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Those left to honor her memory include her loving children, David Sheridan of Clinton, Iowa, Anne (Gary) Seffrin, Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) VanderBeke, Sioux Falls, SD, Elizabeth Seffrin, Cedar Falls, IA, Meghan (Adrian) Alva, Las Cruces, NM; two great grandchildren, Mia VanderBeke and Brayden Alva; step grandchildren, Jesse (Lauren) Adams and Heather Adams and a sister-in-law Ava McFarlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, son Larry, and siblings Paul Griswold and Madonna Griswold. Her children would like to thank the Kahl Home and Mercy Medical Center for the compassionate care given to their mother. Debra was born in Kearney, Nebraska on December 5, 1951, the daughter of David and Frances (Gillien) Troxel. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1970 and attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo. She married Thomas W. Stange on July 12, 1975 in Clinton. Debra had been employed at Mercy Medical Center, was a stay at home mom, and later worked at Northwest Fabrics and Sewing Machines and More. She was a very active member of the Open Bible Fellowship Church, Morrison. She was a member of the YWCA and Friends for Charity. She loved attending her granddaughter’s activities, sewing, golfing, bowling, baking, and being with her dog Sophia. Debra is survived by her husband Thomas; a daughter, Keitha Kjergaard (Clint Andresen) of Clinton; a son, Daniel Stange of DeKalb, IL; two granddaughters, Alyssa Pessman and Emma Kjergaard; a sister, Keitha Jean (Kevin) Sharps of Oskaloosa, IA; sister-in-laws, Jenny Troxel of Callaway, NB, Kathy (Ross) Filion of Heightstown, NJ, Kitty Willimack of Dewitt, and Linda Troxel of Clinton; many nieces and nephews, her dog Sophie and a grand dog, Roy. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Sidney, Keith and her twin David.

Lucy was born in Clinton on March 24, 1942, the daughter of Lucius and Matilda Byers. She graduated from Clinton High School. Lucy married Charles P. Harris on December 17, 1959 in Clinton. Charles passed away on May 16, 2008. She had been employed at the Clinton Garment Factory, K-Mart, and later with Swiss Colony and Kwik Star. Lucy loved her family and attending all her grandchildren’s events. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and the slot machines. Lucy is survived by five children, Susan (Johnny) Seed of Marshalltown, IA, Joan “Joni’ (Rex) Bolton of Mesa, AZ, Charles (Galena) Harris of Bettendorf, Steve (Carrie George) Harris of Clinton and Patrick (Trischa) Harris of Clinton; 10 grandchildren, Eric, Chisum, Brett, Elizabeth, Jessica, Michelle, Alison, Ryan, Regan and Gabriel and 9 great grandchildren, Conner, Eric, Tiana, Kaelynn, Charleigh, Olivia, Hayden, Jaxson and Chisum, Jr, and her dog Lulu. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter in infancy and her siblings.

He married Deborah Wiese on March 14, 1981 in Clinton. Michael worked as a Lab Technician at Clinton Corn, Nabisco, and ADM for 44 years; retiring in 2012. Michael is survived by his wife, Deborah Stillings of Clinton; two daughters, Mindy (Nick) Madry of Aurora, IL and Jill (Albert) Hayton of Clinton; two grandsons, Aiden and Kelan Madry; two brothers, Steve Stillings and Pat (Barb) Stillings both of Clinton; a sister, Sue Stillings of Clinton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a nephew, Justin Kane.

Debra married Michael Thomas on Dec. 1, 1973. She worked at K-Mart, Nielsen Clearing House, Iowa State Bank, and most recently at Medical Associates for 15 years, retiring in 2016. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren. Debra is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Carrie) Thomas and Richard Thomas both of Clinton; two grandchildren, Allen and Maci; parents, Georgia (Robert) Null of Camanche; her brother, Andrew (Kathleen) Linder of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Heidi (David) Burn of Camanche and Patricia Thomas of Clinton; her nephew, Heiko Thomas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, and cousins. He graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1959 and later received his BA degree in Business Education and Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, in 1969. He served in the US Army in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965-1967. He married Mary Knight on June 5, 1971, in Clinton. He was a school teacher at the Preston High School for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, making knives and sheaths, loved traveling, had a true love of nature, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Clausen of Clinton; eight children: Penny Clausen of Davenport, Joe Clausen of Clinton, Tim (Paula) Clausen of Lisbon, IA, Tonya (Robert Hess) Cairo of Lebanon, OR, Charles Clausen of Clinton, Maxine (Walter) Bell of Clinton, Jeremy (Nicole Shea) Clausen of Dubuque, and Owen (Katie Clubb) Clausen of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren, Kayla, Ron, Jessica, Evan, Bryce, Chloe, Kylie, Caitlyn, Colton, Ben, MaKayla, Ashlei, Alex, Zach, and Keeleigh; 8 great grandchildren: Zane, Brooklyn, Matthew, Thomas, Baily, Jasmaine, Kailyn, and Konley; five sisters, Fern (Harold Poggenpohl) Ackermann of Bellevue, Patsey Farrell of Goose Lake, Peggy (Leo Martens) Stevens of Baldwin, Judy (Lynn) Soenksen of LeClaire, and Charlotte (Curt) Pefferman of Goose Lake. Clinton, Iowa Dale L. “Scotty” Scott 91 of Clinton, Iowa went to his heavenly home on Thursday May 4th. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 10th at 10:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church. There will be a viewing an hour before the service beginning at 9:30 AM. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 pm Tuesday May 9th at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery in rural Bryant. Pallbearers will be grandsons Wesley and Jeremy Hook, Craig Dykstra, Kenny Swanton, Jason Scott, Don Gabel, Benjamin Scott and Tyler Lafferty. Dale L. “Scotty” Scott was born in Lost Nation June 19, 1925. The Son of Lester and Edna “Grace” (Schocker) Scott. He had one sister Donna Suthers Hardin of Maquoketa. Dale graduated from Baldwin High School in 1943. He attended Maquoketa Community College until he enlisted in the service. Dale served in World War II stationed in Korea. He was a corporal in communications and served as an MP and supply clerk from April 2, 1945 to June 22, 1946. Dale originally trained for the invasion of mainland Japan. In 1946 Dale met his life-long soulmate Carla Marie Wolff of Chicago, Illinois. A mutual friend setup their blind date. They married in 1947 so their 70th Wedding Anniversary will be June 7, 2017. Dale and Carla farmed for nine years in the Lost Nation and Wyoming, Iowa area until they moved to Clinton. He worked for Interstate Power Company for 15 years before retiring. 4H Clubs enjoyed his presentations on electricity for many years. Dale worked for Ross River selling Wick buildings and A.O. Smith Harvesters and feed systems and later sold Na Churs Liquid Fertilizer, O’s Gold and Asgrow seed and Moorman feeds. In his early years he played on basketball and baseball traveling teams. Bowling was another favorite pastime. Dale bowled in leagues at the Plaza Bowl, Imperial Lanes in Camanche and the Recreation Lanes. Dale was a Clinton Little League Baseball coach for the Indians. He coached his sons for 12 years. Dale was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan who lived to see the Cubs finally win the World Series. He loved to dance and sing. Dale was a dedicated father and grandfather following his children and grandchildren in their many activities. He always kept his grandchildren entertained with their favorite Cheetos and Welch’s grape soda pop. Dale was survived by his wife Carla of 69 years; his sister Donna Harden of Maquoketa; his six children, Sharon (Larry) Hook of Thomson, IL, Wendy (Denny) Aye of Oakland, CA, Gregory (Chris) Scott of Quincy, IL, David (Terry) Scott of Bettendorf, IA, Penny (Dave) Swanton of Goose Lake, IA and Donald (Christine) Scott of Johnston, IA; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Grace Scott.
