Clinton, Iowa Christine M. Larson, 51 of Clinton, died April 20, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. According to her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL on Friday, April 28th from 9:30-10:30 AM. Christine is survived by her two children, Megan and Lucas Larson both of Clinton; four grandchildren, Brayden, JesseAnn, Anthony, and Eastyn; a brother, Steve (Lori) Colschen of Clinton, and a sister, Virginia “Gin” (Charles) Burg of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Richard, and two infant twins.

Clinton, Iowa William H. “Bill” Miller, age 91 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Mercy Living Center South. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 18th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Bill was born on May 20, 1925 in Almont, Iowa, the son of Henry and Ethel (Struve) Miller. He graduated from Miles High School. Bill married Joan M. Pestka on April 11, 1959 in Clinton. Joan passed away in 1981. Bill had been employed at Nitron Company and at Chemplex, from where he retired after 18 years of service. He was a member of the former St. Boniface Church. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Bill is survived by two children; a daughter, Paulette (Randy) Lynch of Clinton; a son, Michael (Tracey) Miller of Slatington, PA; five grandchildren; Alicia Lynch, Daniel Weeks, Matthew Weeks, Keegan Miller and Seamus Miller. Camanche, Iowa Wayne W. Wiersema 75 of Camanche, passed away Saturday April 15, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center in Dewitt. Visitation will be held Saturday April 22nd from 2 – 5 PM at the Pape Funeral Home. Family requests all friends feel free to dress in one of Wayne’s favorite sports team during the visitation. He was a veteran with the US National Guard. He married Virginia Werner in June of 1981 in Camanche; she died in 2005. He worked for A.D.M. (Clinton Corn) for over 47 years as a process operator; retiring in 2007. Wayne was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with his friends. Wayne is survived by his two children, Christy (Craig) Hagemeier of DeKalb, IL and Troy (Cinda) Wiersema of Fulton, IL; three step-children, Terry Stevens of Clinton, Dale Stevens of Denver, CO, and Scott Gregory of Clinton; four grandchildren and four step grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step-son, and a sister.

Cleo A. (Ruchotzke) Gray - 74

Preston, Iowa Cleo A. (Ruchotzke) Gray age 74 of Preston, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at her home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa and from 9:00 A.M. until the service time Thursday at the church. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery. Cleo was born in Green Island, Iowa on December 28, 1942, the daughter of Leo and Caroline (Theilen) Ruchotzke. She graduated from Preston High School in 1960. Cleo married Donald D. Gray on June 17, 1962 in Preston. She worked for two years at Clinton National Bank. Cleo and Donald raised their two children and then she went back to banking. She worked at the Preston and Miles Banks for 23 years, under different names and managements. She retired on December 1, 2007 under the ownership of Clinton National Bank. Cleo was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa. She made the communion bread for the church for over 20 years. She loved baking and cooking, especially her favorite oatmeal bread. She would give it to family and friends. She loved playing dominoes with four different groups of friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Cleo is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter, Nathalie (Scott) Schertz of Lacon, IL; a daughter-in-law Renee (Kueter) Gray of McFarland, WI; two granddaughters, Cassondra (Michael) Shumway and Alyssa Gray; two grandsons, Lukas and Michael Gray; a step-great grandson, Nathan Martin; a great granddaughter, Emmaline Shumway; a sister, Caroline (Ruchotzke) Behn of Preston; two sisters-in-law, Mardella Ruchotzke and Linda Ruchotzke both of Miles; a brother, John (Madge) Ruchotzke of Grinnell, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Aaron Gray; a sister, Leola Eggers; a brother-in-law, Richard Eggers; four brothers, Carroll, Leo, Hugo and Louis; a sister-in-law, Dona Ruchotzke; a brother-in-law, Wesley Behn; two nephews, David Behn and Lane Ruchotzke and a great nephew, Kyle Bennett. Michele is survived by her daughter, Molly Ryan of Clinton; her two grandchildren, Ethan and Erin; her cat, Maxwell; her many special friends; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He enjoyed boating, fishing, bicycling, and working on his cars. He liked the Pittsburgh Steelers and of course the Nebraska Corn Huskers. He was a Nascar Kurt Busch fan. Stephen is survived by his two daughters, Nicole and Tara Wilden both of Charlotte, IA; his mother, Kathy Wilden of Clinton; a sister, Laura Wilden of Waverly, IA; and a half-brother, Joseph Wilden of Clinton; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a nephew, Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and several uncles.

He worked at General Electric as a set-up man in the plastic molding department for over 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and watching the eagles at the lock-n-dam. Charles is survived by his two sons, David and Douglas Howes of Fulton, IL; a grandson, Phillip (Toni) Howes of Camanche; two great grandchildren, Catarina and Charlie; four sisters, Judy Libberton of Clinton and Joyce (Dave) Lutz of Rapid City, IL., Peggy Schlue of Davenport, and Mary (Tim) Harrington of Albuquerque, NM and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son, Chuck, and two brothers, Tom and Clyde.

Steven was born on Oct. 10, 1956 in Clinton, the son of Arthur “Smokey” and Alyce (Scott) Sager. He worked in upholstery most of his life. He was a member of the Clinton Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing billiards, fishing, outdoors, bicycling, and with his frisbee. Steven is survived by his sister, Barbara Sager of Freeport, IL; his brothers, Robert Sager of Morrison, IL, Don Sager of Clinton, and Rich Sager of St. Louis, MO; his parents, Peggy (Eldo) Krebs of Clinton; a step-brother, Kerry Avery of Clinton; his nieces and nephews, Marrisa, Jason, Matthew, Alysia, Jeremy, and Aaron; and three great nephews, Jayden, Jarod, and Jaxsyn. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and grandparents.

Lyda P. McGrath - 92

Clinton, IA Lyda P. McGrath, age 92 of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM on Saturday April 1st, at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Lyda was born in Cedar Rapids on August 5, 1924 the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Henderson) Oakfield. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1942 in Cedar Rapids. Lyda married Frank McGrath on May 26, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She always said he was her only true love. Frank sadly passed away on March 21, 2016 just shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. She had worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids prior to her marriage. Lyda was a school crossing guard at Elijah Buell School in Clinton. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the AMVETS Auxiliary and had served with the PTA. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and going camping. Lyda and Frank enjoyed traveling and had visited all 48 contiguous states. Lyda is survived by two sons, James (Robin) McGrath of Parkersburg, WV and Danny (Geralyn) McGrath of Clinton; five grandchildren, Andrew (Katie Player) McGrath, Tracy (Travis) Smith, Darby (Stormi) McGrath, Jaime (Mike) Hilsenbeck and Jolinda (Pat) Burr; two great granddaughters, Amelia Smith and Kelsie Hilsenbeck, one great grandson Kagen Hilsenbeck and a very special friend Annette Lyons. The family would like to give a special thanks to Leigh Ann and the staff at the Alverno. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, and two brothers.

Gary S. Munson - 75

Clinton, Iowa Gary S. Munson, Sr. age 75 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Bickford Cottages of Clinton, due to complications from underlying disease processes. A memorial service will be held from 11:00 AM Friday March 31st at the Pape Funeral Home. A gathering of friends and family will be held Friday 10:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Following the memorial service a luncheon will be held at the Community Congregational Church U.C.C. next door to the funeral home. No graveside services are planned. Gary was born in Clinton on December 23, 1941, the son of Albert “Obbie” and Marion (Wilson) Munson. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1960 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Dubuque in 1964. He married Kay Fromang on November 9, 1962 in Dubuque. Kay passed away tragically on April 15, 2009. He missed Kay tremendously, while still grieving the emotional, sudden loss of his son, David, age 21. Gary was employed at Standard Brands in Clinton from 1964 to 1971. He was production manager at Ralston Purina from 1971 to 1984 and was then employed at National By-Products from 1984 until his retirement. He also owned and operated the Wheel-Inn Marina in Sabula from 1979 to 1983. After his retirement, his days were spent helping others through his business, Munson Construction, until 2010. Gary was an active, busy person, rarely seen relaxing, during his active years. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and they were a huge focus of his life, as he was of their lives. Gary was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Thirteeners Fraternity (13ers) at the University of Dubuque. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, being on the river scavenger hunting, and spending time with his buddy Ray Wiersema, fraternity brother, Harlan “Fish” Fischer, friend Tom Palsgrove, and family friends, Bonnie and Harley Dubeck. He liked going to car swap meets, and was an avid Arnie Beswick memorabilia collector. He also supported the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes where his granddaughters attend college. Gary is survived by his son, Gary S. Munson, Jr. Clinton; his daughter, Kaylyn “Lyn” (Jeff) Dickinson of Clinton; foreign exchange daughter, Catherine (Philippe) Chevassut of Paris, France; five grandchildren, Alexis, Erin, Mackenna, Annelise and Matthew; a sister, Judy (Jack) Phillips of Chandler, AZ, a special cousin Steve "Brody" Wilson, and nieces; Patrea (Troy) Aeschliman, Jennifer Johnson, nephews; Brad (Tammy) Johnson, Mike (Dana) Phillips, Troy (Kacey) Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife Kay; his parents, and a son, David on August 14, 1988.
