Carolyn was born on Aug. 4, 1924 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Vern and Minnie (Ramsey) Houser. She married Edwin Dunmore on June 21, 1942 in Missouri; he died in 2014. Carolyn was a homemaker, where she loved to cook. She was one of the Jehovah Witness, Kingdom Hall in Clinton. She was a generous and giving person. Her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren sporting events. Carolyn loved to travel. Carolyn is survived by her three children, Larry (Andrea) Dunmore of Janesville, WI, James (Brenda) Dunmore of Clinton, and Steve Dunmore of Roseville, CA; 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Linsey, Geoffrey, Matt, Ashley, Nathan, Daniel, Aaron, Jennifer, and Kasey; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several brothers and sisters.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Red Hat Club and the Sewing Club. Myrna enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Myrna is survived by her four children, Myrna (Tim) Miracle of Clinton, Rhonda (Mark) Day of Bettendorf, William Romer, Jr. of Clinton, and Brenda (Vincent) Cornilsen of Clinton; 6 grandchildren, Bobby, William, Francis, Valerie, Danielle, and Gerri; 6 great grandchildren; and three brothers, Francis “Butch” (Karen) Shirley, William “Pete” Shirley, and Dan (Connie) Shirley all of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother.

Camanche, Iowa Merline J. Jess, 89 of Camanche, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South. In following Merline’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private service will be held. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Merline was born in Camanche on August 10, 1927, the daughter of Merlin L. and Viola M. (Hugunin) Iliff. She graduated from Clinton High School. Merline married Carl Jess on May 11, 1946 in Chicago. Carl passed away on May 14, 2008. Merlin had been employed at Grants, McLellands, the Clinton Garment Factory and as produce manager at Kopp’s in Camanche. She had been a member of the Camanche Baptist Church, Amvets Auxiliary and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. She enjoyed spending time with and going to her grandchildren’s activities, fishing trips to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, supporting the Camanche Indian teams and going to the casino. She was a great cook, an avid Chicago Cub fan, and followed the Iowa Hawkeye’s. Merline is survived by two children; Douglas (Betty) Jess and Jane (Lenny) Beal both of Camanche; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a brother, Joseph (Sharilyn) Iliff of Clinton. Clinton, IA Cynthia J. “Cyndi” Vulich, age 64 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South. In following Cyndi’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Cyndi was born in Forest Park, IL on November 3, 1951, the daughter of Peter and Doris (Scott) Vulich. She graduated from Clinton High School and received her AA Degree from Clinton Community College. Cyndi had worked as a truck driver and later as a receptionist at Clinton National Bank and McEleney Motors. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking bike rides along the river and up to the lock and dam and her time living in Colorado. She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed going to trucker's jamboree in Walcott every year. Cyndi is survived by two nieces; Hannah Wamsley of Clinton and Sarah Keister of Gerlaw, IL; two great nieces, Jennifer Buhlman and Haylee Chambers both of Gerlaw and a very special friend Jeff Gilchrist of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Christine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren. David was born in Clinton on February 4, 1959, the son of Wilford and Lois (Paetow) Dohrn. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1977. David married Donita Vulich on October 7, 1978 in Clinton. He had farmed and worked construction for various local contractors. David was a member of the Eagles Club, Duck’s Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He lived for his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and quoting lines from movies. David is survived by two children; Melissa Dohrn (Don LeRoux) and David (Tara) Dohrn both of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Aleina, Keona, Davian, Avery, Ashtyn, Kaylee, Donavin, Emma and Magnus; two brothers, Robert (Julie) Dohrn and JD (Diana) Dohrn both of Clinton and nieces and nephews. He later married Dawn Kolthoff in 2007 in Clinton. Greg worked as a farrowing manager at Gilt Edge Farms in Freeport, IL. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing World of Warcraft. He was an avid Star Wars and Ozzy Osborne fan. Greg is survived by his wife, Dawn Smith of Clinton; three daughters, Layla, Erica, and Danica Smith all of Clinton; three step-children, Keith Tornow of Prophetstown, IL, Damian Tornow of Clinton, and Shauntae Hernandez of Rock Falls, IL; two grandchildren, Jerimiah and Karlee; his father, Barry Smith of Camanche; two brothers, Gary Smith of Lost Nation and Barry “BJ” (De) Smith of Ridott, IL; a sister, Michelle (Rob) Rodekamp of Clinton; his best friend, Kenneth Tornow; and several nieces and nephews. Elene was born in Clinton on June 24, 1929, the daughter of William “Bill” and Leona (Kroigaard) Petersen. She graduated from Lyons High School. Elene was a homemaker, caring for elderly members of her family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the former Odeon Club where she enjoyed bowling. She was a loving aunt to her nephew Eric and niece Renee. Elene is survived by her nephew Eric (Shannon) Petersen of Cottage Grove, MN; her niece Renee (Chris) Daniels of Burnsville, MN and a sister-in-law, Mary Petersen of Cottage Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jurgen.

Clinton, Iowa Terence L. Sullivan age 77 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. In following Terry’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Terry Sullivan Student Athlete Scholarship Fund. Terry was born in Clinton on August 8, 1939, the son of John and Ruth (Eklund) Sullivan. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1957 and served with the United States Air Force from June of 1957 to June of 1961. Terry was stationed in the Philippines where he was a middle infielder for the Air Force traveling baseball team. Terry married Barbara Buckman on September 7, 1963 at St. Irenaeus Church. Terry retired from the Clinton Herald after 40 years. He owned and worked at Adcraft from 1974 to 2014. He had been a member of the former St. Irenaeus Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandkids play sports. He loved baseball and working with his family. Terry is survived by his wife Barbara; five children, Daniel (Julie) Sullivan of Clinton and their children, Jordan (Avery) McWallace and their son and Terry’s great grandson, Deacon, Colin and John; Sean (Rebecca) Sullivan of Bettendorf and their children, Delainey, Presley and Parker; Michelle (Kyle) Schoenfelder of Bettendorf and their children MacKinen, Tucker and Rocky; Erinn (Jon) Dillon of Wheaton, IL and their children Quinn, Hawkins and Elliot and Colin (Megan) Sullivan of Camanche and their children Lawson and Sutton; three brothers, Don Sullivan of Davenport, James Sullivan of Camanche and Patrick (Jill) Sullivan of Ankeny, IA; a sister, Connie (Dutch) Eshelman of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Clinton, Iowa Mary Alice Harlock, age 92 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at her home. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday Oct. 22nd from 1-3 PM at her daughter Mary’s home at 538 6th Avenue South in Clinton. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mary was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on September 13, 1924, the daughter of James and Alice (Montgomery) Hamilton. She married Vernon H. Harlock on February 22, 1941 in Clinton and together had seven children. Mary was a supervisor at Clinton Garment Company before becoming a seamstress instructor at Jobs Corps. She then began working in the food service industry for many years, owning and operating Mary’s Café on South Fourth Street for about 25 years, and ending her career at HyVee Food Store and retiring at the age of 82. Mary enjoyed bowling, where she had an average of 163, knitting and crocheting. Mary is survived by five children, Laura Jensen, Mary Soibel and Steve Harlock all of Clinton, Grace Brown of WI, and Walter Harlock of TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a very dear friend of over 50 years, Elene Petersen. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, softball, playing cards, fishing/hunting, but mostly the time he spent with his family and at the church. Pat is survived by his wife, Lois Black of Clinton; three children, Lisa (Ray) Bormann of Preston, Steven (Angie) Black of Fulton, IL, and Kristi (James) LaShelle of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Cori, Susan, Blake, Amber, Justin, Bradley, and Patrick; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
