Mary A. Harlock - 92

Clinton, Iowa Mary Alice Harlock, age 92 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at her home. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday Oct. 22nd from 1-3 PM at her daughter Mary’s home at 538 6th Avenue South in Clinton. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mary was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on September 13, 1924, the daughter of James and Alice (Montgomery) Hamilton. She married Vernon H. Harlock on February 22, 1941 in Clinton and together had seven children. Mary was a supervisor at Clinton Garment Company before becoming a seamstress instructor at Jobs Corps. She then began working in the food service industry for many years, owning and operating Mary’s Café on South Fourth Street for about 25 years, and ending her career at HyVee Food Store and retiring at the age of 82. Mary enjoyed bowling, where she had an average of 163, knitting and crocheting. Mary is survived by five children, Laura Jensen, Mary Soibel and Steve Harlock all of Clinton, Grace Brown of WI, and Walter Harlock of TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a very dear friend of over 50 years, Elene Petersen. Clinton, Iowa Patrick R. “Pat” Black age 81 of Clinton, passed away Sunday Oct. 16, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held Wednesday 5 – 7 PM at the Pape Funeral Home and Thursday 10:00 AM until the service hour at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1953. He served in the US Army. Pat married Lois Jones on May 8, 1955 in Clinton. He worked for E.I. DuPont, Hawkeye, and Chemplex. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, softball, playing cards, fishing/hunting, but mostly the time he spent with his family and at the church. Pat is survived by his wife, Lois Black of Clinton; three children, Lisa (Ray) Bormann of Preston, Steven (Angie) Black of Fulton, IL, and Kristi (James) LaShelle of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Cori, Susan, Blake, Amber, Justin, Bradley, and Patrick; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Clinton, IA Carla Ann Heaivilin, age 62, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Carla was born in Clinton on October 13, 1953, the daughter of Jerome K. and Bonnie L. (Hoffman) Brown. She graduated from Clinton High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Clinton Community College. She married Dennis Heaivilin in July of 1975 in Clinton. Dennis preceded her in death. Carla loved and adored her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed weekend road trips, vacationing, knitting and tending to her garden, especially her roses. Carla is survived by her longtime companion David Green of Clinton; three children, Amanda H. (Andy) Heitzenroder of Clinton, Erik (Jennifer) Heaivilin of Bondurant, IA, and Kenneth Heaivilin of St. Joseph, MO; 15 grandchildren; her sister, Mary (David) Wiest of Clinton and nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter Denise.

Robert C. Sindelar - 85

DeWitt, Iowa Robert C. Sindelar, age 85 of De Witt, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at West Wing Place in DeWitt. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at the Rock Island Arsenal. Robert was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on December 27, 1930, the son of Albert and Mary (Carter) Sindelar. He served with the United States Navy from February 24, 1950 until May 19, 1954. Robert was an over the road truck driver with Allied Van Lines. Robert is survived by a son, Ed Sindelar; two daughters, Donna Sindelar and Sandy Young, all of Connecticut; his sister, Isobel “Sindy” McDonnell of DeWitt; a brother, Van (Shirley) Sindelar of Shakopee, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1942. She married Jim Adkins on June 10, 1950 in Clinton. Mary Lou worked at Nielsen Clearing House, Clinton and as an executive secretary for P.F.C. in Camanche. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, ceramics, and reading. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Mary Lou is survived by her two daughters, Diane (John) Rentschler of Clinton and Peggy (Nick) Gelormino of Wake Forest, NC; three grandchildren, Emily (Steve) Ring, Shea (Marc) Wolfe, and Cody (Casey) Rentschler; a step-grandson, Mike (Sarah) Gelormino; six great-grandchildren (Zachary and Madeline Ring, Caden and Brady Wolfe, Perri and Haven Rentschler) and two great step-grandchildren (Maya and Jonathan Gelormino). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a step-grandson, Tony, and her sister and brother.

They were displaced immigrants from WWll, and after a long journey, in 1950, they made their new home in Clinton, IA. He worked for ADM (Clinton Corn) and later turned his avocation for boating into his own marina business. After his retirement in 1990 he enjoyed golfing and hunting. Stan is survived by his loving wife, Irene Wytrwal of Clinton, son John (Alicia) Wytrwal of Byrdstown, TN, daughter, Donna Seiver of Alpharetta, GA; 4 grandchildren, Erik (Lisa), Mikel, Nicholas, and Trevor; 1 great grandchild Matilda; daughter-in-law Lynn Wytrwal and sisters, Czeslawa (Edward) Dygdon of Woodridge IL, and Zofia Mis of Poland, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Pitro, his sister Krystyna, his son, Richard M. Wytrwal and brother-in-law Edward Dygdon.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home, in Clinton. A luncheon will follow at the Community Congregational Church. Ginny was born in Witt, IL on July 27, 1925, the daughter of Andrew and Anne (Battiste) Rushford. She married Stephen B. Thomas on February 19, 1949 in Pekin, IL. Steve passed away on June 5, 1996. She was a member of the Associated Church in Owatonna and attended the First United Methodist Church while in Clinton. Ginny was a Josten’s wife, entertaining business associates alongside her husband. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, gardening, baking, entertaining, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Ginny is survived by her daughter and companion, Nancy Thomas of Clinton, IA; a granddaughter, Ketty Martens Huggins of St. Paul, MN; three great grandchildren, Emily Anne “Emmy”, Stephen Anthony “Tony”, and Evelyn Kathleen “Evie”; her sister, Gloria (Joe) Mayer of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, her son-in-law, Ed (Libby) Martens of Rochester, MN, and nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Steve, her daughter, Kathy Martens in 2001, and two brothers, Bob and George. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, 2020 No. 3rd St. in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Marylin was born in Clinton on February 26, 1935, the daughter of Lester Jake and Margaret (Gladhill) Humphrey. She graduated from Clinton High School. Marylin married Charles Raymond “Ray” Kupfer on August 1, 1954. Ray passed away on June 22, 1997. Marylin was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was known for her baked pies at Porkey’s on Main Ave. She loved her kids and grandkids and was there for anybody that needed a mom. Marylin enjoyed bingo on Friday nights and playing cards with the boys at the Silver Dollar on Sunday’s. Marylin is survived by 8 children; Larry Kupfer of Kansas City, MO, Raymond (Kim) Kupfer of Clinton, Russell Kupfer of Clinton, Joyce (LeRoy) Boyd of Valley Falls, KS, Steven (Carol) Kupfer of Clinton, Susan (Dave) Wynkoop of Clinton, Linda (Barry) Kustes of Clinton and David Kupfer of Kansas City, MO; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Shirley) Humphrey of West Branch and Jake (Betty) Humphrey of Lobelville, TN; a sister, Joan Pinkston of Clinton; 2 brother-in-laws, Charles “Chuck” Craft of Valley Falls, KS and Bill Van Dorn of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter-in-law Debra Kupfer, a granddaughter Cherie Kupfer, 2 sisters, Jackie Craft and Betty Van Dorn and 3 half sisters.

Bobby F. Enwright - 87

Melbourne, AR Bobby F. Enwright, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Harbor Crest Home in Fulton, Illinois after fighting a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2nd from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home, with a remembrance to Bobby taking place at 3 PM. Burial will be at Comb’s Cemetery in Melbourne, Arkansas, where Bobby will be buried alongside his beloved wife Adean who passed August 1, 2016. Bobby Francis Enwright was born November 30, 1928, the son of Francis and Edith (Goddard) Enwright in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from Elvira High School. Following high school Bobby enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and retired in 1968 as a Master Sergeant after serving our country for 20 years. He fought in the Korean War and was also stationed in Alaska and Thailand. Bobby loved animals and after retiring, he raised several different animals on his small farm. He would take llamas, donkeys, goats and his small Corgi dog Maggie to different nursing homes to cheer up the residents. Bobby is survived by a daughter, Irene Enwright of Clinton; two sons, Michael Enwright of Wylie, TX and Billy Enwright of Corvalis, OR; grandchildren Jason (Michelle) Greve and Shane (Megan) Greve of Iowa City; three great grandsons, Isaac, Witten and Owen; a sister Phyllis Hasenkamp of Clinton; four step daughters, Sandy (Dale) Chandler and Susan Matheny both of California, Sandy Jones and Connie (Terry) Jones both of Alabama; several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren and four nieces and their families. Bobby will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Adean and two step sons, John and Gary Stamps. Memorials can be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Mary Jane Whalen - 90

Clinton, Iowa Mary Jane Whalen age 90 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home and from 1:30 P. M. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon McGrath-Bernhard, Andrea Thieman, Sherry McKay, Dawn Schafer, Chris McGrath, Rebekah Rippy and Meri McGrath. Mary Jane was born in Lyons, Iowa on October 9, 1925, the daughter of William and Jesse (Hansen) Otto. She graduated from Lyons High School. Mary Jane was married to George L. McGrath for 20 years. George passed away in 1968. She later married Marvin J. Whalen on September 4, 1971 and was married to Marvin for 20 years before he passed away in 1991. Mary Jane spent her later years with her beloved companion, Harris “Ted” Taylor, until his death in 2011. Mary Jane worked as a car hop at A and W, later as a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell and for over 30 years worked for, and then managed the DuPont Cellophane Employee’s Credit Union, now 1st Gateway Credit Union. She was a member of the Civilian Police Academy Alumni. She was a wonderful cook and gardener, and enjoyed bowling, traveling the country, and watching her grandkids and great grandkids grow. She always said she had a wonderful life with no regrets. Mary Jane is survived by three children; Sharon Kay McGrath (Mark Mapes) of Sacramento, CA, Jane Wynkoop (Ron, deceased) of Clinton and Richard (Debi) McGrath of Polk City, IA; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
