Arlene J. Lauritzen-Morris - 84

Clinton, Iowa Arlene J. Lauritzen- Morris, age 84, of Clinton, Iowa, died Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton after battling a courageous battle with lung cancer. She will be greatly missed by all. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Pape Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 28th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Cremation rights have been accorded and burial will be at later date in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Honorary pall bearers will be her grandchildren Ben and Jake Lauritzen, Jensen, Baylor and Emerson Crigger. Arlene was born Arlene June Sowards in Orangeville, Illinois on March 10, 1932, the daughter of Floyd and Tressie (Dietmeier) Sowards. She graduated from Orangeville High School Class of 1950. She married Donald L. Lauritzen on September 8, 1951, in Orangeville, IL. While raising her family she worked for Burpee Seed Company, Naeve Seed Corn and Iowa State Bank. She later moved to Pensacola, Florida and worked for Pica Graphic Press. After living in Florida, she moved to Las Vegas and worked for the Excalibur Casino. She returned to Clinton to be closer to her family and worked for the Mississippi Belle II. Arlene loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was so proud of all her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them participates in sports. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards with her friends. Arlene is survived by a son, Jay (Joan) Lauritzen of Clinton and a daughter, Sara (Troy) Crigger of Camanche; five grandchildren, Ben and Jake Lauritzen and Jensen, Baylor and Emerson Crigger; a sister Barbara (Gail) Shippy of Palm Springs, CA and brother Mark (Annie) Sowards of Palomar Mountain, C; and several nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dawn; a son, Scott; a grandson Mitch Lauritzen; a brother Ross Sowards; and sisters Ruth Peck and Beulah Propheter.

Bill was a 50 year member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge. Bill is survived by his six children, Judy Holy of Clinton, William (Sandy) Hinsch of Clinton, Barbara Hinsch of Camanche, Mary Hinsch of Tulsa, OK, Robert (Annette) Hinsch of Camanche, and Thomas (Joni) Hinsch of Albany, IL; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anita, and a sister, June.

DeWitt, Iowa Evelyn K. Benedict age 93 of DeWitt, formerly of Delmar, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at West Wing Place in DeWitt. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 23rd at Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the service time at the church. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 24th. Evelyn K. Benedict was born in Delmar, Iowa on March 4, 1923, the daughter of Linus and Nell (Kelly) Hanrahan. She graduated from Delmar High School in 1941. Evelyn married Kenneth Benedict on September 26, 1948 in Delmar. Kenny died in 1978. She worked as a book keeper for Burpee Seed Co., Promotion Fulfillment, and Prince of Peace catholic offices. Evelyn was always full of energy and enjoyed work and being away from her house, not ready for the retirement lifestyle she quickly returned to the workforce part-time at HyVee handing out samples in the produce section where she worked past her 90th birthday. Evelyn could be seen almost any day of the week in the early morning walking along the riverfront in Clinton, most days with her dog Charlie. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. Evelyn’s faith in God and her devotion to her family and friends were at the center of all she did throughout her life. Evelyn is survived by seven grandchildren Theresa, Pat, Danny, Mary, David, Sean and Larry; eight great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her son Larry Hanrahan; three siblings Francis , Claire and Margaret ; Granddaughter Regina: Great Granddaughter Kristin.

He enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, and he especially loved his dogs. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary Bartels of Clinton; three daughters, Cathy Cogil of Madison, WI, Connie (Terry) Doescher of Clinton, and Cindy (Norm) Weets of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Justin, Kaylynn, Lindsay, Kelsey, Lucas, Shelby, Korie, Jayme, and Brennan; his great grandson, Mason; and a sister, Donna (Tom) Hueholt of Des Moines, IA. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte and the Eagles Club in Clinton. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Donal is survived by his daughter, Susan Galetti of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Dierks, David (Lianna) Dierks, Michael (Jolene) Dierks, Scott (Tina) Dierks, and Jerimy Galetti; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Darline Bielenberg of Goose Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Allen, and a brother, Robert.

Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery, where the Clinton AMVETS will conduct military honors. Farrell was born on April 9, 1927 in Gibbon Village, MN, the son of Howard and Hilda (Fjell) Reese. He served in the US Air Force during WWII, serving in Germany. He married Norma “Pat” Holland on September, 22, 1951 in Forrest City, IA. Pat passed away on April 21, 2008. He taught orchestra from 1965-1989 with the Clinton Community School District and was a K-Mart greeter for several years. Farrell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, American Legion, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the piano and violin. Farrell is survived by his two sons, Steven Reese and Scott Reese both of Clinton; three grandchildren, Erix, Sherri, and Jennifer; two great grandchildren; a brother, Milo (Georgia) Reese of Oregon, IL; and a sister, Joan Abraham of Gaylord, MN. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Ed was born In Lyons on January 3, 1928, the son of Henry O. and Katherine (Steiniger) Langrehr. He attended Clinton Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having been stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Ed married Dorothy Hansen on October 29, 1949 at the Little Bit of Heaven Chapel in Davenport. He was employed as a black smith with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad retiring in 1990. He was a former member of the Eagle Club and Loyal Order of Moose. Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards and following the Cubs. Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Steven E. Langrehr of Clinton, Edwin M. (Brenda) Langrehr of Fulton and Jeffrey J. (Sara) Langrehr of Davenport; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Hope, Isaac and William; two great grandchildren, Bridgett and Bryce; one brother, Henry (Arlene) Langrehr of Clinton; two sisters, Mildred Durgin of Anamosa, IA and Delores Krakliowa of Rock Island and several nieces and nephews. He worked at the Burpee Seed Company for over 32 years; retiring in 1979. He married Darla Davids on Oct. 11, 1980 in Clinton. He served as manager and past president of the Clinton Junior Baseball. Ray is survived by his wife, Darla Jorgensen of Clinton; two sons, Martin (Jeanie) Jorgensen of Des Moines, IA and Michael (Bonnie) Jorgensen of St. Peter, MN; his step-daughter, Jodie (Jim) Vance of LeClaire, IA; five grandchildren, Greg, Erica, David, Noah, and Ryan; a great-granddaughter, Avery; his sister, Marilyn Ravis of Camanche, IA; and a brother-in-law, Ray Meyermann of Camanche, IA. Clinton, Iowa Sister Marie de Lourdes, OSF passed away at the Alverno on August, 31, 2016, after a short illness. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 6th at The Canticle. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, with a Rosary at 4 and a Scripture Service at 6 on Monday, September 5th, 2016 at The Canticle. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Sister Marie de Lourdes (Bertha Louise) was born on May 14, 1924, in Peoria, Illinois, the only child of Jesse D. and Frances E. (Miller) Davenport. A convert to Catholicism, she was baptized at St. Paul Church, Burlington, Iowa, on June 15, 1944. Bertha attended elementary and high school in Roseville, Illinois, graduating in 1943. After graduation, she entered Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Burlington, Iowa. She received her Diploma in Nursing in 1946, and her R.N. in 1947. She held nursing certification for Iowa and Illinois. Bertha attended Mount St. Clare College after entering the congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis at Clinton, Iowa, on September 8, 1948. She received the name Marie de Lourdes at her reception June 20, 1949. She made her first profession on August 12, 1951, and her final profession on August 13, 1954 Sister Marie de Lourdes ministered in the health care field for 28 years. In Clinton, she served at the former Mount Alverno Home for the Aged in 1951-1952. For fifteen years, she served as a general duty nurse in health care facilities then owned and staffed by the Clinton Franciscan congregation; St. Francis Hospital, Grinnell, Iowa; Mercy Hospital, Burlington, Iowa; and St. Francis Hospital, Macomb, Illinois. In 1967, she was assigned to Freeport, Grand Bahama, in the Bahama Islands where she served in public health nursing until retiring from active nursing duty in 1979. She returned to Mount St. Clare Convent and served for more than 20 years as driver for Sisters living in Clinton. She moved with her Franciscan sisters to their new residence, The Canticle, in 1997 and retired there in 2003 where she greeted people and answered the phone in the reception office. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by the members of her Clinton Franciscan Family.
