Clinton, Iowa Elaine R. Cramer age 86 of Clinton, passed away Saturday May 14, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. Private family services were held today at the Oakland Cemetery. Elaine was born on Sept. 19, 1929 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Kopp) Sebald. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1947. She married LeRoy Cramer on April 15, 1950 in Dubuque; he died in 2015. She worked with the Clinton Community Schools in special education and with Riverbend; where she retired. Elaine volunteered with Mercy Auxiliary, where she logged in over 5300 hours. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed hosting and going to garage sales. Elaine is survived by her three children, Linda (Bill) Balk of Thomson, IL, Robin (James Pott) Crouch of Grenada, MS, and Scott (Lou Stahl) Cramer of Fulton, IL; seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter - Sandy in 2009, and a brother.

She married Charley Morgan in 1974 in Rock Island, IL; he died in 2006. Allene enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her family. Allene is survived by her daughter, Karon Perkins-Drevyanko of Clinton; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter. She married Lee Jewett on Nov. 8, 1952 in Dubuque, Iowa; he died in 2011. Betty was a homemaker and had worked for the Welles Department Store and the Super 8 Motel in Waterloo. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Waterloo. Betty loved to cook, painting ceramics, antiques, and spending time with her family. Betty is survived by her three children, Regina (Jerry) Dahl of Clinton, IA, Joan Summerhayes of Waterloo, IA, and Craig Jewett of Yellville, AR; seven grandchildren, Cyrene, Aaron, Joshua, Erica, Christine, Emily, and Nick; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Heim of East Dubuque, IL, Daniel Heim of Key west, IA; two sisters, Vivian Waechter of Lincoln, NE and Diane Weis of Dubuque, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter in infancy, and five brothers, Clarence, Edward, Kenneth, John, and Richard.

Clinton, IA Geraldine Mae Clausen-Butz age 81, a longtime resident of Clinton, IA, went to her final resting place on May 9, 2016 after a brief illness. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday May 13th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Thursday May 12th and from 9:30 until the service time on Friday. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton. Pall bearers will be her eight grandchildren. A luncheon will follow at Triple Play Bowling and Banquet in Fulton, IL. Geraldine was born on November 23, 1934, the daughter of Ingwer and Pauline (Humphrey) Gertsen in Clinton. She married Faye D. Clausen on September 11, 1954. Faye died on May 8, 1991. Geraldine then married Claire Butz on May 20, 1995. She was a lifelong City of Clinton employee and upon retirement, she worked for the Clinton School District. Geraldine enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, her card club, outdoor work, bus trips to the casino, watching old western movies and eating garlic and butter shrimp made by her grandson Chance. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Geraldine is survived by her husband Claire; four daughters, Lynn (Craig) Brandt, Sheryl (Jeffrey) Sullivan, Jacie (Eldon) Rannfeldt and Kimberly (Doug) Pennock; eight grandchildren, Jeffery Jr., Thaddeus, Angela, Leah, Chance, Zane, Emma and Seth; five step-sons, Jay, Jan, Joel, Jerry and Jon; 11 step-grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Faye and her siblings Eugene, Lavonne and Mary.

He graduated from Clinton High School in 1961 and attended Clinton Community College. He married Karen Potter on Aug, 23, 1964 in DeWitt, IA. Jerold owned and operated Judd’s Standard, and later worked at McEleney Motors as a salesman. He was an avid fisherman, especially loved to bass fish. He loved to build things for his wife’s garden, and was very proud of the garden shed he built. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he was an usher and on the Board of Trustees. He was a former member of the YMCA, Y’smen Club, and loved to swim and lift weights. Jerold is survived by his wife, Karen of Clinton; two sons, David (Monica) Judd of Olathe, KS and Brian Judd of Phoenix, AZ; four granddaughters, Morgan, Jade, Kathy, and Sarah; three brothers, William (Mary Kay) Judd of Oelwein, IA, Thomas (Linda) Judd of Clinton, and Robert (Marijo) Judd of Evanston, IL; a sister, Leona Schmidt of Morrison, IL; his brother-in-law, Robert (Dorothy) Potter of Davenport, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.

Clinton, IA Margaret Rose Tholen, 83, of Clinton, passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 5, 2016. Margaret was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a strong vibrant woman who embodied strength and bravery throughout her life. She showed those around her incredible kindness and generosity. Margaret, with her endearing sense of humor, will be deeply missed. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Holle and Rose Walsh, her brothers, Ed, Frank, Richard, Gerald and Andrew, her two sisters, Mary and Patricia, and her son Daniel. Margaret is survived by her daughters Cathy and Debbie, her sister Joann, and her two brothers Norm and Jim. She has four surviving grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob, Tucker and Austin, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A social remembrance will be held at 9:00am on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Clinton, Iowa. A mass will follow the remembrance at 10:00am. Ossian, Iowa formerly of Clinton Kenneth D. Witt, 84, of Ossian, IA formerly of Clinton, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at his home. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday May 7, 2016 at Prince of Peace Parish. Friends may call on Friday, May 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Pape Funeral Home. Private committal services will be held at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic School or the Ossian Ambulance Service. Ken was born on December 18, 1931 in La Crosse, WI the son of Walter and Lavina (Dunnigan) Witt. He was raised and educated in Ossian, graduating from Ossian Public High School in 1949. Ken married Ann Michels in Bellevue, IA on April 24, 1954. Ann passed away on November 18, 2007. Ken worked many different jobs while raising his family of 10 children. He was a huge supporter of all their athletic events. Ken worked as a route manager for several years for the Jewel Tea Company in Bellevue, Clinton and Ottumwa. He later returned to Clinton where he owned and operated four “Say Hi Ken” Phillip 66 gas stations before retiring in 1986. In 1986 Ken and Ann moved to Hackensack, MN where they owned and operated Birch Haven Fishing Resort until they finally retired. Ken loved to fish. He truly enjoyed when his family would travel to Birch Haven to vacation and he was able to take his children and grandchildren fishing. He also enjoyed traveling to Canada to fish. He enjoyed being a member of coffee clubs in both Hackensack and Ossian. Ken had been an active volunteer at St. Irenaeus Church while in Clinton spending many hours in the basement remodeling project and then calling BINGO. Surviving are his ten children, Steve Witt of Stevens Point, WI, Kathy (Mark) McGuire of Meridian, ID, Karen Witt of Clinton, Mike (MaryBeth) Witt of Pewaukee, WI, Bev (Al) McGuire of Monmouth, IL, Dave Witt of Colome, SD, Sue Hutton of Sherrard, IL Jane (Jeff) Roth of Camanche, Jean Matheny of Clinton and Mary (Joe) Michaelsen of Fulton; 26 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Mary Ann) Witt of Ossian, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Helen Witt; his wife; a half-brother, Hugh Cherioli and a half-sister, Leola Cherioli-Michels, and a daughter in law, Teresa Witt. Clinton, IA Kathleen F. “Lynn” Schaley, age 70, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at her home following a long and courageous battle with MS. In following her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM till 1:30 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 1:30 PM. A luncheon will follow at the Eagle Club. Lynn was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 26, 1946, the daughter of Dr. Louis and Muriel (Sames) Vogel. She graduated from high school in Cleveland and received her BA Degree in English from Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO in 1967. Lynn married John Fuller on April 15, 1967 in Cheyenne, WY. She later married Mike Schaley ( her best friend and soulmate) on May 27, 1977 in Clinton. Lynn had been a substitute teacher at Clinton High School and had taught at Clinton Community College. She later worked for Triple A, at Klines, and then as a reporter for many years at the Clinton Herald. She had run for the County Supervisor’s Office in the 1980’s and was a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary. Lynn was an avid Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed reading, writing, traveling and bowling. Her bowling team "Coupe DeVille" was the city champions in the early 80's. Lynn is survived by her husband, Mike; three children, Bridget Fuller (Kevin Saiter of Clinton, Christy (Rich) Campie of Camanche and Dan Fuller of Low Moor; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Kyler, Eric, Landon and Mereck; a great granddaughter, Taylor; a brother, William “Bill” (Judy) Vogel of Euclid, OH; a step-sister, Jenni Roach of Cleveland and many nieces and nephews in and around Clinton and the Cleveland, Ohio area. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dr. Don Vogel.
