Wausau, WI Jennifer J. Barnes Stanger, 41, of Wausau, WI, formerly of Clinton, died Monday April 25, 2016 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 4th, at the Pape Funeral Home, 2308 Pershing Blvd, Clinton, IA. Jenny Jean Barnes was born on November 11, 1974 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Gary and Marilyn (Mickey) Frederick Barnes. She attended the Clinton schools, graduating from Clinton High School in 1993. Jenny married Shane Stanger in 2005 and moved to Wisconsin to manage a resort on Pickerel Lake for six years. After her divorce, she moved to Wausau and began her brave, long battle with leukemia. Through her health struggles, she was always up-beat and smiling. She truly enjoyed living in her little house with her two pet huskies. Jenny had a keen wit, was an avid reader and loved sitting outside by the fire pit visiting with her great neighbors and family. Those left to cherish her memory include her parents, her brother Chad and his wife Rhoni Jo, her neice Gabriella, her nephew Grant, maternal grandmother Ramona Frederick, paternal grandmother LaVonne Barnes, aunts, uncles and several cousins and her special pets Mischief and Chaos. She was preceded in death by both her grandfathers, Harry E. Barnes and John A. Frederick. Jen was so thankful to all those that expressed such concern and care for her during her difficult health journey…especially her brother Chad for being her stem cell donor. In lieu of flowers, in appreciation the family will use compassionate discretion with any cards and monetary gifts.

Clinton, Iowa John P. “Jack” Smith age 89 of Clinton passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Private family services will be held Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home with burial in North Madison Pioneer Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa. Jack was born in Anamosa, Iowa on October 5, 1926, the son of Paul and Samara (Perrine) Smith. He graduated from Anamosa High School and received his degree in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University in 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Jack married Jody Wilkins on June 21, 1947 in Ames. He later married Bonnie Krabbenhoft on December 28, 2002 in DeWitt. Jack had farmed his families Century Farm in Jones County and later worked for the Farm Bureau from where he retired. He was a member of the Low Moor Lions Club. He loved golfing and fishing and was an avid reader. Jack is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters, Kimberlee (Timothy) Borman of Bay City, OR and Sabrina Bartruff of Fort Wright, KY; eight grandchildren, Windy, Skylar, McKenzie, Ian, Max, Tyler, Courtney and Mark and three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Billy and Sebastian. Richard "Dick" Cummings - 78

Cedar Rapids, Iowa Richard Duane Cummings January 13, 1938 – April 14, 2016 A husband, father and grandfather has answered the call of the Father. On April 14, 2016 the spirit of Richard Duane Cummings took flight. His life mission is closed. He leaves a wife of 50 years, Janice Marie Cummings; a son Ian Ross, (Isabelle Andree) Cummings; two grandchildren, Christophe Jean Cummings and Alyson Jeannette Cummings; one brother Max Robert, (Janice Lewis) Cummings of Ames, IA; one nephew, Ryan Robert, (Andrea) Cummings; one niece, Jennifer Marie Cummings; a sister, Debra Sue Makidon; and his beloved basset hounds “Norman” and “Gracie”. Richard “Dick” was born on January 13, 1938 in Winterset, Iowa, the first son of Hampton Robert and Flossie Mae Cummings. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1956, served his country in the Air Force for 4 years, and later graduated from UNI with a Master’s Degree in Business Education. Dick was an Associate Professor of Business Education at the College of Lake Country in Lake County, Illinois for 25 years until retiring in 1994. He also wrote two Salesmanship textbooks, worked for many years with the B.S.A. as a Webelos leader, built a log home from “trees” (which took 10 years), and he and Janice traveled extensively in the United States and Canada in their Airstream Trailer, having belonged to WBCCI (the Airstream club) for 27 years. Dick’s life work has ended. He has accomplished his allotted task and now goes to his reward. The years allotted to him by the Master were 78 full ones in his Vineyard. Dick was of exemplary Christian character, and set an example of helping others, especially the musicians in the many bands Janice has been associated with over their 50 years of marriage. He was always off stage helping carry equipment, set up and tear down and keep everyone supplied with music, allowing the musicians to bring the joy of music to hundreds of people over the years. And now Dick’s beloved family lays him away to his eternal rest, and trusts that the All Father keeps him in his loving care. *Rewritten by Janice from the original obituary of Janice’s maternal grandmother, Ruth Marie Stormes, which was printed in “The American Journal of General News”, Clinton Iowa on Friday, December 9, 1921. As per Dick’s wishes, there will be no visitation or public funeral. His immediate family will hold a private graveside service at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa with Pape Funeral Home of Clinton assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, memorials may be directed to the family, and they will in turn purchase musical instruments and equipment to be donated to and used for the music therapy program at Mercy’s Hallmar Care Center in Cedar Rapids where Janice has been a volunteer for the last two years. The family is grateful for the loving care given by all the nursing, support staff and doctors at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 14th at the Pape Funeral Home. Caroline was born in Clinton on December 19, 1961, the daughter of Jack and Judith (Hess) Leslie. She graduated from Clinton High School. Caroline married Rick Wirth in Clinton. She later married Sean Martin in Clinton. He preceded her death. She later married Paul McBride in Clinton. Paul preceded her in death. Caroline enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, camping, being outdoors in the sun, swimming, drawing and pottery. Caroline is survived by three sons, Christian Wirth of the Quad Cities, Justin Wirth and Joshua (Emily) Quint of Prior, OK; three grandchildren, Jayden, Nathan and Belle; seven sisters, Linda Corbisier of Clinton, Leanna (Delbert) Geffers of Clinton, Laurie (Daryl) Behrens of Clinton, Valerie (Russell) Oberman of Davenport, Regina (Sharon Hadraba) Leslie of Plattsmouth, NB, Mary Hoffman of Clinton, Jennifer Holt of Clinton and Amy Leslie of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday April 14th, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, April 13th and from 10 A.M. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the services at the Eagles Club. Henry Gary Soenksen was born September 27, 1952 the son of Henry “Bud” and Catherine “Katie” (Inman) Soenksen. He attended Fulton and Camanche schools, graduating from Camanche High School. Gary attended Clinton Community College where he played baseball. He married Connie Hoffman on August 26, 2006 in Clinton. Gary had farmed and later been employed with Bengston Construction, McJunkin and was a part owner of Bonnie’s Scenic Tavern with his wife. He was a member of the Eagles Club, enjoyed working in the yard and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Gary is survived by his wife, Connie; three sons, Brian (Beth) Soenksen, Kevin (Shawnelle) Soenksen and Jeff (Julie) Soenksen; a step-daughter, Lacey (A.J.) Steines; two step-sons, Jesse Everson and Eric (Cheryl) Everson; four grandsons, Dakota, Cameron, Cole and Mason; several step-grandchildren; a special step-granddaughter, Laynie; a brother, Greg (Deb) Soenksen; two nephews and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, family vacations to Destin, FL, hosting hog roasts, cooking, playing penny slots and listening to her favorite band Bowman, Pickney, and Evans. Cathryn spent the majority of her life as a home maker and also worked at Allen’s Tea Room and Kline’s Department Store. In years past, Cathryn and Harry enjoyed wintering in Texas. She was a member of Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church. She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Mac) McCurry, Summerfield, Florida, Linda Regenwether, Ocala, Florida, and Marilyn (Michael) McKeown, Castle Rock, Colorado; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Ockenfels, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Harold (Wilma) Arnold of Paducah, Kentucky and Norman Arnold of Dunnellon, Florida; a daughter in law, Jean Todtz, Goose Lake, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was born in Lakeview, Oregon on November 24, 1941, the daughter of John Ray and Ramona (Pierrot) Brewster. She married John Damgaard on December 4, 1959 in Clinton. John passed away on August 3, 2005. Ellen had worked out of her home as a seamstress. She had also been employed with GE in Morrison, Carlon and Walmart. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ellen enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking and gardening. She had even tackled remodeling her home. Ellen is survived by three children; Bonnie Michaelsen (Matt Blumer) of Camanche, John (Kimberly) Damgaard of Victoria MN, and Ben (Jennifer) Damgaard of Camanche; five grandchildren, Ben, Mitchell, Jack, Lauren, and Lillie ; brothers and sisters; Kate (Michael) Johnsrud of Dubuque, Michele (Merle) Schreiber of Dubuque, Mike (Judy) Rucker, Jim Rucker, Ann Rucker-Eggers of Dubuque, and George (Diane) Brewster of Coeur D’Alene, ID and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Jacqueline Otto, Patricia Donovan and Linda Griebel; and three brothers, Dick Brewster, Larry Brewster and Lane Brewster, and an infant brother.
