Clinton, Iowa Mary Ruth Mickelson, age 86 of Clinton, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Alverno. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Mary Ruth was born in Alta, Iowa on February 6, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Irene Cecelia (Maguire) Harrison. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949. Mary Ruth married Paul J. Mickelson on July 21, 1951 at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton. Paul passed away on March 20, 1979. She was a nursing assistant at Mercy Hospital from 1960 to 1990. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Prince of Peace Auxiliary. She was a very active volunteer working bingo and funeral luncheons at the former St. Irenaeus Church at Prince of Peace. Mary Ruth was very proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She had volunteered with the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary for 20 years with 5747 hours served. She loved her dogs and caring for her Christmas cactus and shamrock plants. Mary Ruth is survived by her daughter Barb (Greg) Graf of Clinton; two grandchildren; Paul Graf of Clinton and Sarah Graf of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Arlene Wing.

Bryant, IA Edith Clarabelle Rickertsen age 97 of Bryant, Iowa, passed away on July 29, 2016, at West Wing Place DeWitt, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church Goose Lake, Iowa, at 10:30 A.M. Friday August 5th. Visitation will be Thursday August 4th from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Pape Funeral Home Clinton, Iowa, and an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. As a child she moved to a farm near Almont, Iowa, where she attended school. In 1937 she graduated from Lyons High School. She attended Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa, before teaching in the rural schools for six years. Edith married Raymond Rickertsen on February 27, 1944, in Charlotte, Iowa. Shortly after they were married they moved to the farm near Goose Lake, Iowa, where they farmed for many years. Ray passed away on March 22, 1971. Edith enjoyed playing cards including bridge, gardening, crocheting, and quilting. For many years she volunteered at Mercy Hospital and crocheted hats for the newborns. She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church Goose Lake, Iowa. She enjoyed quilting and donated many quilts to benevolence through the church. In addition, she often crocheted gifts for the Sunday School children. She is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Larry (Kasu) Rickertsen of Clinton, Iowa, and their children Angie (Rick) Tague of McCausland, Iowa, and Chad (April) Rickertsen of Clinton, Iowa. Jerry (Gwenn) Rickertsen of Bryant, Iowa, and their children Dustin (Amanda) Rickertsen of Bryant, Iowa; Dr. Brandon (Emily) Rickertsen of Bellevue, Iowa; and Reece (Jillian) Rickertsen of Royal Oak, Michigan. Great Grandchildren include Alexis and Paige Rickertsen, Nathan and Christopher Tague, and Connor Rickertsen. She was proceeded in death by her husband and two brothers and three sisters. Clinton, IA Clarence James “Jim” Cook age 87 of Clinton, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the service time Friday at the church. Jim was born in Delmar, Iowa on March 23, 1929, the son of Clarence L. “Red” and Viola Ellen (Synder) Cook. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1946 and attended the University of Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army in the occupation of Japan from 1946 to 1948. Jim married Claudine R. “Dena” Wendt on August 16, 1952 in DeWitt. Dena passed away on December 16, 2013. Jim had been employed at Bender Music, Sears, and as an electrician at E.I. DuPont from where he retired in 1984. He also owned and operated Cook’s TV and Repair from his home. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the AMVETS, Valley Oaks and the Fulton County Club. Jim had coached Little League Baseball for many years and was an avid sports fan. He was an excellent bowler and golfer who had recorded 4 hole’s in one. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling. He and Dena had spent many years wintering in Arizona. Jim is survived by three children, James Michael “Mike” Cook of Clinton, Thomas Jon (Peggy) Cook of Davenport and Cynthia Marie (Cook) Switzer of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Lovdahl, Dr. Christine Haynes, Jessica Sager, Kathryn Bibbs, Jon Cook, Clarissa Sheper and James Switzer; 14 great grandchildren, Cora, Isabella, Madeline, Charlie, Maia, Lauryn, Ava, Declan, Dustin, Alivia, Austin, Colten, Madison and Tyler; 2 sisters, Shirley Gorzney of Calamus and Mary Ruth (Paul) Lasack of Oxford Junction; a brother, John “Jack” (Arlene) Cook of Bettendorf and many nieces and nephews. Glenn was born October 25th, 1955 in Morrison, Illinois to Glenn and Naomi (Sikkema) Jones; Sr. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1974, and began working at ADM in 1980. Glenn was married to Tracy Johns on May 23, 2006 in Clinton. Glenn loved to go camping with his wife and friends, and spent most of his free time "working" around the house or yard, though he often made more trouble than he did good. Glenn loved to watch a good Bears game, and took their winnings (and losings) VERY seriously. Glenn also liked to "watch" NASCAR races. He would turn the race on and start doing tasks in the house or yard, but heaven forbid someone change the channel. Glenn liked to grill out, have bonfires, and enjoyed having a few Coors or Busch Lights. Glenn was a dedicated and hard-working employee of ADM for over 36 years, spending the last 15 on the switch crew. Glenn is sadly missed by his wife Tracy, his children, Geneva Jones, Josh (Jeni) Jones, Jeremy (Manoy) Jones; step-children, Amber Trude, Amanda Trude, Anna Trude, Abby Paysen, and Dustin Paysen; his 7 grandchildren, Creed, Cheyenne, Damon, Darien, Payton, Braedyn and Gideon; his 4 siblings, Mert, Mike, Roxanne, and Sam; and many close friends and relatives. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, 2 of his siblings, Larry Sperry and Kristin Phillips, and a granddaughter, Trudy. Glenn was often quiet, but was known to tell a few stories when he was in a good mood. Family and friends will remember Glenn as being reliable, and always willing to jump in and help when he was needed. Glenn took great pride in his children and grand-children, and always wanted the best for them, and did everything he could to be a good father, husband, and provider.

He enjoyed making people laugh. Mike is survived by his children, Carter Michael Dann, Cage Daron Dann, and Camryn Lynn-Laree Dann; his parents, Ronda (Bob “Pops”) Stauffer and Mark (Shelley) Dann; his sisters, Jessica (Andrew) Carbajal and Jenna (David) Frame; step-sisters, Bailee and Tia Stauffer; grandparents, Donna VanZuiden, Ron and Linda VanZuiden, Merritt and Sandy Dann; his great grandmother, Betty Faber; and several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Clinton, Iowa Joan M. Carleton Dunmore, age 86 of Clinton, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North surrounded by her family. According to her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be held at Springdale Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for Joan will be held at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Joan was born April 7th, 1930 in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of Ted and Helen (Sullivan) Carleton. She was raised in Chicago, IL and always considered it her home town. Joan attended Mount St. Clare Academy in Clinton, IA graduating in 1948. She then attended Mount St. Clare College getting her AA Degree in 1950. Joan received a BA in nursing at St. Francis Hospital’s School of Nursing in Evanston, IL in 1953. Joan married John G. (Jack) Dunmore on October 16th, 1954 in Chicago. Jack passed away on October 10, 1993. She worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital and Wyndcrest Nursing Home, retiring in 1985. Joan was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church and Prince of Peace Parish. She loved spending time with her family, playing the piano and watching old movies. Joan was a diehard Chicago Bears fan and followed the Cubs. Joan is survived by her children, John Dunmore and Bill Dunmore of Clinton, IA, Helen (Tony) Gonzales of Moline, IL, Sandy (Byron) Stowe of Davenport, IA, Tom (Sandy) Dunmore of Freeport, IL and Michelle Dunmore of Madison, WI; her sister Dorothy Bass of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many step-grandchildren. Judy was born on June 19, 1943 in Clinton, the daughter of William and Evelyn (Goodell) Dash. She graduated from Clinton High School. She married Robert “Bob” Voda on Aug. 8, 1964 in Clinton. Bob passed away on November 2, 2012. She worked at Hy-Vee for 11 years and K-Mart for over 28 years. She was a member of Clinton Church of Christ and the Clinton Women’s Bowling Association 600 Club. She enjoyed playing Bingo, taking care of Bob, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching her family bowl. Judy is survived by her three daughters, Cindy (Jay) Garvey of Clinton, Diane (John) Vance of Bettendorf, and Vicki (Barry) Mann of Ashville, NC; seven grandchildren, Kenny (Bridget) Garvey, Taylor Garvey, Kayla Vance, John Vance Jr., Casey Mann, Kamryn Mann, and Brittney Mann; a great grandson, Jacob Hartman; three brothers, Robert Dash of Albany, IL, Gary (Delores) Dash of Clinton, David (Brenda) Dash of Oahu, HI and many nieces and nephews. Clinton, IA Robert A. “Goebs” Goebel age 60 of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 8, 2016 at his home. In following Bob’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Following the service the celebration of Bob’s life will continue at the Eagle’s Club. Bob was born in St. Charles, IL on June 7, 1956, the son of Donald C. and Colleen (Scott) Goebel. He graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Charles, IL in 1974 and in 1978 from Southeast Missouri State University. Bob married Becky Eble on September 4, 1982 in Clinton. He later married Karen Krebs on October 31, 2001 in Clinton. Bob worked many years at Paul’s Discount. He later was employed at Equistar and then Nestle Purina. In his younger years Bob was an avid outdoorsman and a former member of the Eagle Club and Amvets. He was co-owner of Jody’s Hot Rod Pizza, which he later sold. Bob is survived by his wife Karen; a son, Jacob (Maggie) Goebel of Clinton; a granddaughter, Olivia; a sister, Linda (Will) Riding of St. Louis; a step-daughter, Krista (Steve) Bigwood of Jesup, IA; a step-grandson, Trey Franks and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon R. Elleson - 91

Clinton, IA Gordon Riveland Elleson peacefully joined his wife, Dolores Kallenbach Elleson, in the Holy Kingdom on Saturday morning, July 2, surrounded by family. Dolores preceded him on October 13, 2001. Gordon was born on May 30, 1925, in Ossian, Iowa, to Gilbert Ben and Alma (Riveland) Elleson. He shared this birthdate with his special nephew, Mike Fullan. Siblings Vernon Elleson, Marguerite Cox and Goldie Kosbau preceded him to the Holy Gate. Gordon graduated Delmar High School in 1942 and entered the Navy at age 17. He served in the Naval Air Corps in the Pacific Theater as a radioman and tail gunner in a torpedo bomber. After his military service, Gordon returned to Clinton and married Dolores on February 28, 1948, at her parents’ home. To this union were born five children: Dale Alan Elleson, Cheryl Kay (Elleson) Schurtz, Denise Elaine (Elleson) Waters, Dennis Gordon Elleson and David James Elleson. He began work in the grocery business at Tannebaum’s, which became Eagles. He advanced to a management position at several Eagles stores, retiring in 1987 after 36 years. In retirement, he and Dolores traveled in their motor home and loved golf. In his later years, he was able to stay at home with the help of his nephew Mike Fullan and his special friend for the past six years, Brandi Gonzalez. He is survived by Dr. Dale and Susan Elleson of Henderson, NV: Cheryl and Dr. Steven Schurtz of Mason City, IA; Denise Waters of Daphne, AL; Dennis Elleson of Portland, OR; and David and Judy Elleson of St. Louis, MO. Also surviving are siblings Audrey (Elleson) Fullan and Richard Elleson. Gordon also has 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, July 5, from 4:00-5:30PM at Rastrelli’s in Room 139. Parking is available on the west side. There will be a private family inurnment on Wednesday at Springdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mercy Home Care & Hospice, 638 South Bluff Boulevard, Clinton, IA 52732.
