Camanche, Iowa Ellen M. Damgaard age 74 of Camanche, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John, Ben, Mitchell, Ben and Jack Damgaard and Matt Blumer. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society. Ellen was born in Lakeview, Oregon on November 24, 1941, the daughter of John Ray and Ramona (Pierrot) Brewster. She married John Damgaard on December 4, 1959 in Clinton. John passed away on August 3, 2005. Ellen had worked out of her home as a seamstress. She had also been employed with GE in Morrison, Carlon and Walmart. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ellen enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking and gardening. She had even tackled remodeling her home. Ellen is survived by three children; Bonnie Michaelsen (Matt Blumer) of Camanche, John (Kimberly) Damgaard of Victoria MN, and Ben (Jennifer) Damgaard of Camanche; five grandchildren, Ben, Mitchell, Jack, Lauren, and Lillie ; brothers and sisters; Kate (Michael) Johnsrud of Dubuque, Michele (Merle) Schreiber of Dubuque, Mike (Judy) Rucker, Jim Rucker, Ann Rucker-Eggers of Dubuque, and George (Diane) Brewster of Coeur D’Alene, ID and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Jacqueline Otto, Patricia Donovan and Linda Griebel; and three brothers, Dick Brewster, Larry Brewster and Lane Brewster, and an infant brother.

Kathryn was born on July 4, 1941 in Iowa City, the daughter of William and Emma (Hubbe) Whitmore. She married Lyle Adrian on July 25th, 1959 in Charlotte, IA. Kathryn worked as a clerk at the Iowa State Bank, the Gateway State Bank and as city clerk for Charlotte. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Morrison, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Kathryn and her husband enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 states. She enjoyed camping, cooking, baking, line dancing and storytelling. Kathryn is survived by her husband Lyle; children; Lonnie (Darla) Adrian, Kim (Craig) Bergmann both of Charlotte and Kyle (Laurie) Adrian of Blue Grass, IA, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brothers and sisters; Betty Roster of Colorado, Erma (Dwaine) Bruhn of Miles, Richard (Sherrill) Whitmore of Thomson, Karen (Stan) Opala of Clinton, Rena (Archie) Archibeque of Missouri, Deni (Steve) Wiemers of Gilmore City, IA and Steve Whitmore of Delmar and brother in laws Hugh Bowman of Maquoketa and Bill McDonald of Charlotte. Clinton, Iowa Beatrice “Bea” B. Zastrow age 92 of Clinton, passed away with loving memories and care from her family on Wednesday, March 30th, 2016. A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday April 4, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the service time Monday morning. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Beatrice was born on November 7, 1923 in Clinton, the daughter of August and Grace (Bos) Luckritz. She graduated from Lyons High School. Bea married Joseph “Joe” Zastrow on August 4th, 1946 in Clinton. Joe died in 2000. In her younger years, Bea worked for Clinton Garment Factory and later retired as a packer with International Paper. She was a member of Chancy Lutheran Church. Bea enjoyed gardening, going on walks, doing word searches, baking and adding to her collection of paper dolls and skunks. Bea is survived by her three children, Jolyce (Douglas) Skinner of Diamond Head, MS, Francis (Pamela) Zastrow of Clinton and Gail Godat (Ed Brooks) of Erie, IL; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, two brothers; Glen and Jule, and a sister Nola.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 30th at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home. Sheryl was born in Des Moines on December 26, 1944, the daughter of James E. and Lisetta A. (Weber) Gibson. She moved to Clinton in 1952 and graduated from Clinton High School in 1963. She graduated from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. Sheryl married Jimmie Schutte on August 19, 1966 in St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Sheryl retired as Co-Director of Nursing at the Alverno Health Care Facility in 2010. She received the Iowa Health Care Association Director of Nursing of the Year in 2007. Sheryl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was affiliated with the Sisters of St. Francis. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, crocheting, outdoor activities such as fishing with her husband Jim and bon fires with her son James. She and her daughter enjoyed berry picking, canning and making jellies and jams. Sheryl loved her Boston Terriers, Micky and Molly. Sheryl is survived by her husband, Jim; two children, Janet (Mark) Stremlow of Sabula and James A. (Tonya) Schutte and her son, Tristan of Clinton; two grandchildren, Krystle Grant of Clinton and Anthony (Taylor) Grant and their son James Anthony of Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren Pete and Sarah Stremlow and their children, Lexi, Taylor, Will and Macy; Ryan and Becky Stremlow and their children, Jack and Henry and Mark, Jr. and Elena Stremlow and their children, Sasha, Leeza and Andre. Clarabell was born in Clinton on November 12, 1929, the daughter of Lewis and Clara (Snart) Craft, Sr. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1947. Clarabell married Chester Birdsley on January 8, 1949 in Clinton. Chester passed away on May 15, 2012. She had been employed with McFarland Photography, as an operator with Northwestern Bell, a cook at Sarah Harding Home and at Clinton High School and later was a custodian at Horace Mann School. She was a member of Community Congregational Church, UCC and had done volunteer work at the Camanche Meal Site. Clarabell enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling with her husband and nature. Clarabell is survived by three children; Alice (John) Keller of Davenport, Steven (Diane) Birdsley and Sheila (Bill) Geltz both of Clinton, six grandchildren; Katrina Keller, Jessica (Patrick) Getz, Amanda (Tom) Morrison, Eric Birdsley, Scott (Elizabeth) Birdsley and Ashley (Ryan Schuetzle) Geltz, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1978. She attended the Clinton Community College and Mt. St. Clair College in Clinton. She was commissioned as an officer in The Salvation Army with the rank of Lieutenant on June 10, 2012. She received her Seminary training at The Salvation Army’s College for Officers Training in Chicago, IL. She continued her education through the Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. She married Kevin Robbins on June 26, 1993 in Clinton, IA. Mary worked for the Carlon Company in Clinton for over 20 years. She and her husband were Corps Officers for The Salvation Army in Muncie, Indiana, and Chaplains at the Harbor Light Center in Indianapolis. Mary was a home based piano teacher, a music teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School (Bloomington, IL), accompanist for choirs at Central Catholic High School (Bloomington, IL), Camanche Middle and High Schools, Unity Christian (Fulton, IL), organist for First Presbyterian Church, Grace Episcopal Church, St. Stephen’s Lutheran, Lutheran Church of the Atonement, Immanuel Lutheran of Camanche (and filled in at various Clinton area churches), pianist at The Salvation Army, church secretary for First United Methodist Church of Clinton, Immanuel Lutheran of Camanche, para educator at Clinton High School and Washington Middle School, Corps Officer at Salvation Army Muncie Citadel (2012-2015). It was important to Mary that each person feels dignity, no matter their station in life. She used to bring purses and jewelry to homeless women in Chicago. Her favorite quotation was, “It is well, it is well, with my soul.” Mary is survived by her husband, Kevin of Indianapolis, IN; four children, Aubrey (Shawn) DeBaar of Branson, MO, Celeste Robbins of Clinton, IA, Noah Robbins of Muncie, IN, and Marguerite Robbins at home in Indianapolis; a step-son, Christopher Robbins of Clinton; five grandchildren, Judah, Colin, Kyle, Jazlynn, and Mercedes; a sister, Ann (Dan) Ragon of Tennyson, WI; and two brothers, Edward (Joyce) VanderMeulen of Morrison, IL and David (Barb) VanderMeulen of Chicago, IL. Frank was born October 18, 1924, the son of Frank H. and Mable C. (Hammond) McGrath in Clinton. Frank married his sweetheart Lyda P. Oakfield on May 26, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He served in the United States Army as a medic during WWII. Frank was employed at E.I. DuPont for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Clinton AMVETS. Frank loved camping with his family and loved to travel. He enjoyed many things in life but most of all spending time with his family. Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Frank is survived by his wife, Lyda; two sons, James (Robin) McGrath of Parkersburg, WV and Danny (Geralyn) McGrath of Clinton; three grandchildren, Andy (Katie Player) McGrath, Darby McGrath, and Tracy (Travis) Smith; two step granddaughters, Jaime (Mike) Hilsenbeck and Jolinda (Pat) Burr; one great granddaughter, Amelia Smith; two step-great grandchildren, Kelsie and Kagen Hilsenbeck; and several nieces and nephews. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Jack was born in Almont on February 7, 1924, the son of Lyal and Leota (Petersen) Struve. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1942. Jack married Marjorie Goettsch on October 11, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church. Jack worked as a service manager for 39 years for McEleney Motors, retiring in 1986. Before going to MeEleney’s Jack worked with his father at the Almont Garage. Jack was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Oakland Cemetery Board, the former Odeon Club and a former member of the Fulton County Club. He and some friends had formed the Bell Air Investors group. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, bowling, golf and gardening. Jack is survived by his wife, Marge; two children, Thomas (Patricia) Struve of Solon, Iowa and Jaclyn (Steven) Patten of Rock Falls, Illinois; two granddaughters, Sheila and Laura and a sister Jeane Johnson of Andover, Iowa. Patricia was born in Clinton on July 22, 1932, the daughter of Eugene and Margaret Louise (Mickelson) Wilcox. She graduated from St. Mary’s high School. Patricia married John F. Pelegrin, Jr. on June 21, 1955 in Clinton. John passed away on May 27, 2000. Patricia had been a switchboard operator with Northwestern Bell, had been a waitress at the Holiday Inn and Frontier Motor Inn, and she retired after 17 years of driving a school bus for the Clinton Public Schools. She was a member of Clinton Community Christian Church. She enjoyed going out for dinner with family and friends. Patricia is survived by three children; Rev. Debby (Jim) Manion of Clinton, Ed Pelegrin of East Moline, IL and Donna (Mark) Kunz of Fairfield, ME; two grandchildren, Bharati Manion and Swati Manion both of Clinton and a brother-in-law, Harry Roeder of Florence, KY. Joshua was born in Morrison on October 20, 1979, the son of Kenneth and Laura (Staas) Snyder. He married Lisa Nelson on July 31, 2001 in Mobile, AL. Joshua enjoyed spending time building legos with his kids, working on cars, following NASCAR, working in the yard and landscaping. Joshua is survived by his mother, Laura (Steve) Hammond of Clinton; four children, Johnathan, Angel, Benjamine and Sebastian all of Clinton; a sister, Ashley Hammond of Davenport; two brothers, Jacob Snyder and Jordan Snyder both of Clinton; his fiancé, Lindsay Thompson and her son, Tayden of Clinton; his father, Kenneth Snyder of Oregon; grandmother’s Mary Walters of Albany and Arlene Snyder of Fulton and a grandfather, Richard (Marilee) Staas of Freeport.
