Clinton, IA Robert A. “Goebs” Goebel age 60 of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 8, 2016 at his home. In following Bob’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Following the service the celebration of Bob’s life will continue at the Eagle’s Club. Bob was born in St. Charles, IL on June 7, 1956, the son of Donald C. and Colleen (Scott) Goebel. He graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Charles, IL in 1974 and in 1978 from Southeast Missouri State University. Bob married Becky Eble on September 4, 1982 in Clinton. He later married Karen Krebs on October 31, 2001 in Clinton. Bob worked many years at Paul’s Discount. He later was employed at Equistar and then Nestle Purina. In his younger years Bob was an avid outdoorsman and a former member of the Eagle Club and Amvets. He was co-owner of Jody’s Hot Rod Pizza, which he later sold. Bob is survived by his wife Karen; a son, Jacob (Maggie) Goebel of Clinton; a granddaughter, Olivia; a sister, Linda (Will) Riding of St. Louis; a step-daughter, Krista (Steve) Bigwood of Jesup, IA; a step-grandson, Trey Franks and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon R. Elleson - 91

Clinton, IA Gordon Riveland Elleson peacefully joined his wife, Dolores Kallenbach Elleson, in the Holy Kingdom on Saturday morning, July 2, surrounded by family. Dolores preceded him on October 13, 2001. Gordon was born on May 30, 1925, in Ossian, Iowa, to Gilbert Ben and Alma (Riveland) Elleson. He shared this birthdate with his special nephew, Mike Fullan. Siblings Vernon Elleson, Marguerite Cox and Goldie Kosbau preceded him to the Holy Gate. Gordon graduated Delmar High School in 1942 and entered the Navy at age 17. He served in the Naval Air Corps in the Pacific Theater as a radioman and tail gunner in a torpedo bomber. After his military service, Gordon returned to Clinton and married Dolores on February 28, 1948, at her parents’ home. To this union were born five children: Dale Alan Elleson, Cheryl Kay (Elleson) Schurtz, Denise Elaine (Elleson) Waters, Dennis Gordon Elleson and David James Elleson. He began work in the grocery business at Tannebaum’s, which became Eagles. He advanced to a management position at several Eagles stores, retiring in 1987 after 36 years. In retirement, he and Dolores traveled in their motor home and loved golf. In his later years, he was able to stay at home with the help of his nephew Mike Fullan and his special friend for the past six years, Brandi Gonzalez. He is survived by Dr. Dale and Susan Elleson of Henderson, NV: Cheryl and Dr. Steven Schurtz of Mason City, IA; Denise Waters of Daphne, AL; Dennis Elleson of Portland, OR; and David and Judy Elleson of St. Louis, MO. Also surviving are siblings Audrey (Elleson) Fullan and Richard Elleson. Gordon also has 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, July 5, from 4:00-5:30PM at Rastrelli’s in Room 139. Parking is available on the west side. There will be a private family inurnment on Wednesday at Springdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mercy Home Care & Hospice, 638 South Bluff Boulevard, Clinton, IA 52732.

Clinton, IA Betty Ann Witt Chase, age 85, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Casket bearers will be David Witt, Ryan Rebelsky, Mike Sexton, Darryl Sexton Jr., Ben Witt and David Green. Honorary casket bearers will be Mitch and Mason Kagemann, Jake Drury and Logan Scott. Singing for the services will be Jadin and Jordin Witt and Myrna Franzen. Betty was born in Jackson County on October 28, 1930, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Mae (Fortner) Thomas. She attended Charlotte Schools. Betty married Harold Witt on June 2, 1948 in DeWitt and they farmed for many years in the Dixon, IA area. She later married Kenneth Chase on April 9, 1985 in Morrison. Kenneth passed away on November 30, 2009. Betty was a longtime waitress at restaurants in DeWitt, Camanche and Clinton, including Reynold’s Restaurant and Casa Duran. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, dancing, playing BINGO, going to the casino and especially socializing. With her cheerful personality and vibrant smile, Betty was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Betty is survived by three daughters; Barb (Daryl) Hook of Morrison, Judy Sexton of Clinton and Rita (Mark) Walton of Clinton; four sons, Larry (Vicki) Witt of Davenport, Dave (Chrissy) Witt of Castle Rock, CO, Doug (Jill) Witt of Clinton and Jeff (Lisa) Witt of Clinton; a step-son, Kevin (Barb) Chase of Clinton; 21 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; several great grandchildren; a brother, Russell Thomas of Geneseo, IL and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Thomas of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Randy in 1978, a grandson, two great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Darryl Sexton Sr. and three brothers, Kenneth, Floyd and Benjamin.

Catherine Clare Donahue was born on September 15, 1925 the daughter of William P. and Regina (Hanley) Donahue in Clinton. She attended St. Mary’s schools, graduating in 1943. Katie started working at Northwestern Bell in 1943 as a part-time operator, retiring in 1980 with 38 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers, the CWA telephone union, Clinton Labor Congress and AFL-CIO Union. Katie was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for 20 years. She also belonged to Prince of Peace Ladies Auxiliary, AMVETS Auxiliary, Historical Society and the River City Art Association. She was a lifelong Democrat. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary (Warren) Kaffenberger, Pat (Jerry) Byers, Eleanor (Robert) Ferraris, brother William (Edna Wagner) Donahue and nephew James Ferraris. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Geraldine was born in Clinton on July 28, 1926, the daughter of Benjamin and Veronica (Fier) Determan. She graduated from Mt. St. Clare Academy. Geraldine married Jerome Krogman on June 8, 1948 in Clinton. Jerome passed away on July 15, 2005. She had worked at Northwestern Bell for a short time and following her marriage she and her husband farmed their entire lives in rural Clinton. Geraldine was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the church auxiliary, and the Jolly 12 Card Club. She loved spending time with and following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing BINGO and had volunteered at the Alverno for many years. Geraldine is survived by five children; David (Patricia) Krogman of Bryant, Dan (Carla) Krogman of Ames, IA, Sandra (Mark) Voss of Bryant, Linda Pershing (Thayne Good) of Camanche and Dennis (Deb) Krogman of Clinton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben Determan of Iron Mountain, MI; a sister, Betty Porth of DeWitt and many nieces and nephews. Mark S. Buske - 65

Morrison, IL Mark Steven Buske, 65, died in Morrison, IL, on June 19, 2016 from complications of Fabry disease. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at Prince of Peace Parish on Thursday, June 23rd. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Fabry Disease Foundation, 4301 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 404, Washington, DC 20008-2369. Mark was born in Stockton, IL on September 5, 1950, the son of Marshall and Mary Ellen (Carroll) Buske. He grew up in Clinton and attended St. Mary’s and Clinton Community College. He served in the Navy from 1970 to 1974. In 1976, Mark joined the Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer and spent the next 27 years on assignments to Italy (where he met and married his wife of 38 years, Maria-Antonietta on March 4, 1978 in Rome), Niger, Costa Rica, Germany (Bonn and Berlin), Norway, Austria and Washington, D.C. Mark retired on disability to Fulton, IL in 2004. Mark was a very happy-go-lucky man who was passionate about the Lord, his family, and his country. He was a loyal friend and treated all he met as if he had known them for years. In retirement, Mark enjoyed talking back at the pundits on his favorite news channel, watching sports, and being entertained by the antics of all the squirrels and birds that inhabited his backyard. In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by his beloved son, Marc-Antonio “Tony,” Buske of Fulton; his sisters, Sue (Ed) Runner (who donated a kidney to him) of Elburn, IL, and Mary (Dave) Leonard of Ottumwa, IA, his brothers John (Beth) of Reston, LA, and William (Sharon) of Clinton, and his amazing nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Iowa University Hospital and especially to the Pleasant View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morrison, IL, for the superb and loving care they provided while at the facility. Above all, we thank God for lending Mark to us and feel so very blessed for his presence in our lives.

She attended Camanche Schools and graduated from Washington High School in 2012 and was taking classes at Kirkwood Community College. DeShia loved stuffed animals, playing on the computer, crocheting, coloring, reading, and cats and dogs. She liked going on walks, riding her bike and swimming. DeShia is survived by her parents, Paul and Deb Matthew of Camanche; two brothers, Quan Matthew and Michael Jay Matthew; one sister, Allee Matthew; step-grandmother, Diane (Tom Bubenyak) Sievers of Thomson, IL; three aunts, Laurie Sievers of Clinton, Teresa (Larry Netherlands) Matthew of Clinton and Mary (Sam Farrell) Matthew of Clinton and four special cousins, Dakota, Grace, Gianna and Gavyn. She was preceded in death by grandparents.

DeWitt, IA Richard L. “Dick” Miller age 68 of DeWitt, passed away Wednesday June 15th, 2016 at his home. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday June 17th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service time on Friday. Richard Lee Miller was born on September 27, 1947 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Stanley) Miller. Dick worked at the Skyline Center in Clinton and later for DAC Inc. He enjoyed watching Walker Texas Ranger and old westerns, was an avid Cubs fan, collected different watches and hats, enjoyed teasing and joking with his friends and singing karaoke at Moe’s. Several years ago Dick traveled to Paris, France on the Concord with the L’Arche group. Dick is survived by three brothers, Joseph (Cecelia) Miller of Blairsville, GA, Mike (Karen) Miller of Clinton and Robert Miller of Clinton; a sister Patricia Cartee of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bruce and David.

Clinton, Iowa Willamina Marie (Vandament) McLaughlin age 96 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday June 14, 2016 at The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday June 30th at the First Congregational Church. Visitation will be held Thursday 10:00 AM until the service hour at the Church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 1st at the Pennington Cemetery in Sigourney, IA. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at Willamina, known by her friends as "Willie", was born on December 6, 1919 in Lancaster, Iowa the daughter of Claude and Charlotte Wilkening Vandament. She died on June 14, 2016. She attended the Lancaster and Doggett rural schools and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1937. Following graduation, she was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and later in the office of the Keokuk County Engineer. On June 15, 1941 she married Lyle V. Smith. A son Ronald David Smith was born on Christmas Day, 1942 and died of acute leukemia on March 8, 1960 at the age of seventeen. The Smiths divorced in 1965. She attended Iowa Success Business School in Ottumwa and worked in the Registrar’s Office of Parsons College in Fairfield. In 1970 she bought "Willie's Dancing Needle", a Sewing Center in Fairfield, Iowa. In 1983 she moved to Clinton and was employed by ABC Cleaners in the Alterations Department. In 1992 she married Dr. Richard P. McLaughlin and they divorced in 1996. She was a volunteer and set up the "Living Memorials" of the Keokuk County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Willie was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clinton Women’s Club, the Culture Club, Clinton County Republican Women, the Mayflower Circle, and Lancaster Heritage. She worked at the polls a number of years and enjoyed yard work, refinishing wood, ceramics painting, cake decorating, flowers, and music. Upon her son's death she competed in local and county flower shows winning blue ribbons. She was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the Sigourney Christian Church Choir and other church choirs where she was living, and with the "Clintones" until losing her singing voice. Willie was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ronald, sister Dorothy Luckritz, brother Doyle Vandament, and brother William Vandament & wife Marilyn in an auto accident. She is survived by nephews and nieces, Robert (Julie) Luckritz, Lona (Wylie) Pillers, Lyle Vandament, Karla (Michael) Kuntz, Sally (Randy) Vodney, Tammy (Robert) Celing, Bill Vandament, and Ruby Jane (Travis) Cash.
