Clinton, Iowa Ricky R. Shaw age 64 of Clinton, passed away Sunday March 13, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Cremation rites have been accorded. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com Ricky was born on Aug. 20, 1951 in Clinton, the son of Dwight and Betty (Sinkey) Shaw. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1970. Prior to graduation, he was a paper boy for the local newspaper. He worked at the Evergreen Packaging in Clinton for over 40 years. He enjoyed watching old western movies, spending time with his family, and working on his cars. Ricky is survived by his wife, Peggy Shaw of Clinton; a son, Ryan Shaw of Clinton; two step-sons, Kevin Hickey of Titusville, FL and Matthew Hickey of Clinton; four grandchildren, Erin, Mattheu, Wyatt, and Weston; a brother, Roger (Theresa) Shaw of Andover, IA; five sisters, Connie Huizenga of Camanche, Linda Sibley, Marojie (John) Maschmann, Myrlene “Itsie” Turner, and Carla (Bill) Trude all of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother-in-laws, and a nephew.

Clinton, Iowa John D. “Red” Boland age 91 of Clinton, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at The Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by AMVETS Post 28. John was born in Armstrong, Iowa on June 17, 1924, the son of Thomas and Rose (Quinn) Boland. He graduated from Strawberry Point High School. He served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the European Theater during W.W. II. John married Beverly Petersen on May 14, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Beverly passed away on December 31, 2011. John was a machinist with the Rock Island Railroad for many years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the former Odeon Club, AA, NARVE and the Clinton Bowling Association where he bowled for several years in the 55+ league. John never missed any of his grandchildren’s activities and he was very proud to have taken the Honor Flight in April of 2011. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeye fan. John is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Jay Wilson) Boland of Clinton; two grandchildren, Quinn Gunderson and John Gunderson both of Clinton; a sister, Peggy Hardy of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; a sister-in-law, Norma Stafford in California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Chuck and Matthew and three sisters, Kay, Anita and Ann.

Clinton, Iowa Arthur E. Perryman age 72 of Clinton passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday March 9, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday March 8th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Vance Wade, Roger Krabbenhoft, Don Harding, Don Walker, Chad Tholen and Scott Tichler. Art was born in Clinton on December 27, 1943, the son of Arthur H. and Isabelle (Jones) Perryman. He served for six years with the U.S. Army with two years of active duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Art was the change-over supervisor at TMK IPSCO for 25 years. He had also been employed at Allied Structural Steel and Illinois Range. His family was very important to him, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends. Art is survived by four children; Melissa (Dan) Wilson of Hillsdale, IL, James (Michelle) Perryman, Nicholas Perryman, and Jennifer Perryman all of Clinton; three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ashlynn and Baya; a brother, Richard Perryman of Dixon, IL and a sister, Marlene (Leon) Campbell of Davenport and nieces and nephews. Camanche, Iowa Brian L. Vawter, age 53 of Camanche, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his home. In following Brian’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM. Following the service a celebration of Brian’s life will continue at the Silver Dollar on Main Ave. Brian was born in Normal, Illinois on March 14, 1962, the son of Millard “Bud” and Frances (Robbins) Vawter. He was baptized at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island. Brian graduated from Clinton High School. He was employed with Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 25, Rock Island and later with Ryan and Associates. Brian loved spending time with his grandson, Brysen. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing pool and hunting. Brian had been a member of the Clinton and Camanche Bowling Associations and had received recognition for 25 years of bowling in the National Tournament. Brian is survived by his daughter, Brianna Vawter of Camanche; a grandson, Brysen; his mother, Frances Vawter of Clinton; a sister, Rebecca (Mark) Huebbe of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Randy (Sondria) Vawter of Clinton, Michael (Sarah) Vawter of Clinton and Matthew (Carla) Vawter of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Diane was born on December 27, 1949 in Dunedin, New Zealand, the daughter of Ian and June (Godfrey) Thomas. She graduated from high school in Dunedin. Diane married Delbert Weets on December 2, 1967 in Dunedin, New Zealand. Delbert passed away on August 16, 2014. She was employed as a machinist and later in sales at Collis Tool Company. She had also worked as a CNA at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, as an EMT with the City of Fulton and after retiring from Collis at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Diane enjoyed crocheting, crafts and taking pictures of eagles.
Diane is survived by four children; Norm (Cindy) Weets of Clinton, Andy (Christine) Weets of North Liberty, Corey (Tera) Weets of Camanche and Kim Schroeder (Scott Whitmore) of Albany; seven grandchildren, Shelby, Evan, Brennan, Austin, Karlie, Dalton and Lukas; two great grandchildren, Kristionna and Jeremiah; a sister, Mavis Thomas of Dunedin; a brother, Bourke (Sharon) Thomas of Dunedin and a sister-in-law, Leonnie Thomas of Dunedin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Parry.

Melvin L. Cronk age 77 of Clinton, went into the loving hands of the Lord at 3:30 P.M. Friday afternoon at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, surrounded by his family. A prayer service for Mel was held during the 7:30 AM service at Christ Episcopal Church on Sunday, February 28, 2016. As per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Mel was born on November 5, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Guy and Christina (Hagen) Cronk. He married Helma Michel on September 6, 1958 in Preston, Iowa. Mel was employed with the Clinton MTA for 35 years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He enjoyed volunteering at school, fishing, gardening, wildlife, old cars and noisy machinery.
Mel is survived by his wife Helma; two children, David (Paula) Cronk of St. Louis and Sue Ebensberger of Clinton; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two sisters, Gloria (Charles) Smith of Clinton and Delores Elder of Phoenix, AZ. Paul was born on Sept. 22, 1924 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Floyd and Leota (Griner) Porter. He was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 75th Infantry Division during WWII from 1943-1944. He graduated from Clinton High School and the Iowa State University with a B.A. Degree in 1947. He worked for Land O’Lakes as a General Manager for Grain Elevators and Agricultural Farm Supply for many years, retiring in Mason City, IA in 1984. He was a member of the Elks Club, Iowa Academy of Science, Moline American Legion Post 246, and Oskaloosa American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and working in his yard.
Paul is survived by his wife, Edna Porter of Clinton; two children, Carol (Stephen) Kasper of Owatonna, MN and Ted Porter of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, and Hailee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Hope.

Patricia Ellen McDermott was born November 3, 1944 the daughter of Walter and Darliene (Kennedy) Meighan at Schick Hospital in Clinton. Darliene later married Lester M. Brandenburg and the two of them raised Patricia. Pat attended Clinton schools. She married Ralph Liles in March of 1962 in Clinton. Pat later married Donald G. McDermott on December 17, 1977 in Clinton.
Pat was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She is loved and will be deeply missed by all. She loved her grandkids. Pat enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and watching them all. She had two loyal dogs; Ozzie and Bandit. Pat enjoyed many crafts, crocheting baby blankets, cross stitching and watching hummingbirds at her bird feeder.
Pat is survived by her husband Donald, two sisters; Judy (Bob) Shepherd and Marge (Don) Davis both of Clinton, five children; Chris (Denny) Wierema of Clinton, David (Darlene) Liles of Preston, Shelly (Willie) King, Patricia (Shawn) Boisen, and Kelly McDermott (Bob Watters) all of Clinton, a step-daughter; Shannon (Bob) Nielsen of Clinton, 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a niece and a nephew.

Danna was born on Dec. 27, 1946 in New York, NY, the daughter of Danny and Gerrie (Healy) O’Neil. She was a homemaker and owned/operated the Malt Shoppe near Clinton High School. She attended the First Baptist Church. She was a former head umpire at Honeywell Field for Clinton Junior Baseball. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and making ceramics.
Danna is survived by her three children, Jeff (Stacey) Gage of Princeton, MN, Kellie (Jim) Snodgrass and Danny (Stephanie) Hantelman both of Clinton; 8 grandchildren, Ashlee, Stephanie, Zachary, Collin, Alec, Andrew, Garrett, and Morganne; three great grandchildren, Drake, Taylor, and Adrienne; a half-brother, Tom O’Neil of Indianapolis, IN; and two half-sisters, Katie O’Neil of Indianapolis, IN and Patsy O’Neil of Greenleaf, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
