Jack was born on Nov. 20, 1919 in Clinton, the son of Earl and Edith (Turner) Dahl. He married Helen Determann on April 16, 1941 in Clinton. Jack was a Master welder with the former Clinton Corn Processing for many years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, the outdoors, watching the Cubs and Twins, and spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his four grandchildren, Chris Dahl of Jacksonville, FL, Geoff Dahl of Marion, IA, Shari Knox of Bettendorf, IA, and Heather (Rick) Maas of Grinnell, IA; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Earl Dahl Jr. of CA; and two daughter-in-laws, Bonnie Dahl of Clinton and Linda Dahl of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen in 2008, his two sons, Gale in 1994 and Greg in 2005, two brothers, and two sisters.

Madonna R. Klaes age 91 of Clinton passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center North. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday June 16, 2015 at Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 15th at the Pape Funeral Home. Madonna was born in Cordova, IL on October 3, 1923, the daughter of Raymond G. and Ellen (Enwright) Sullivan. She graduated from Our Lady of Angels Academy and St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Madonna married Charles Klaes on October 25, 1947 in Clinton. Charlie passed away in 1988. Madonna was a Registered Nurse at both St. Joseph Mercy and later Jane Lamb Hospitals had worked at the Fashion Shoppe on Main Ave. and with her husband, owned and operated Charlie’s Supper Club. Madonna was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the TRI-S Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
Madonna is survived by two sons; Michael (Lou Ann) Klaes of Roswell, GA and James (Maggie) Klaes of Clinton; five grandchildren; Rachael, Gabriella, Alexandria, Robert and Dexter; three great grandchildren, Jackson, Eddie, and Charlie; a brother, John (Sandra) Sullivan of Marshall, MO; and two sisters, Betty Alloway of San Diego and Mary Ann McCoy of Elyria, OH; and several nieces & nephews. Sister Joan Holland, OSF, age 81 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at The Canticle, 843 13th Ave. No. in Clinton with the Rev. Jim Bergen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at The Canticle where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. and a scripture service held at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting.
Sister Joan Holland was born November 14, 1933, in Vail, IA, the eighth of eleven children of John J. and Blanche (Lorenzen) Holland. She was baptized Jeanne Ann on November 21, 1933, at St. Ann Church in Vail. She had seven brothers, John, Joseph, Thomas, Doyle C., James, Patrick, Frank and three sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Carol. Jeanne attended Holy Angels School in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from Denison Public High School, Denison, IA.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Clare Convent, Clinton, IA on September 8, 1952, and received the name Sister Joan of Arc at her reception. She was later known simply as Sister Joan. She professed perpetual vows on August 12, 1958.
Sister Joan attended Mount St. Clare College and received a bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA. She held a Life Teaching Certificate from California.
Sister Joan’s love of children and joyful spirit of service were evident in her ministry as a talented and beloved teacher. Her first missions were at St. Rita School in Cameron, MO and at St. Mary School in Hawarden, IA. The remainder of her active ministry was in California where she served at schools in Riverside, Reedley, Chino, and Fontana. Sr. Joan was not only interested in her students’ academic growth, but in their spiritual and emotional growth as well. At the end of her career, she spent fourteen years at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Riverside, California, first as a teacher and then as Spiritual Campus Minister for the students.
Sr. Joan retired at the Canticle in July of 2011. She moved to the Alverno in November, 2013. Her on going courage, and faith in God were an inspiration not only to the Sisters with whom she shared community but also to her caregivers and the residents at the Alverno.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven brothers, and her sisters Mary Holland and Cathy Clausen. She is survived by her sister Carol Cavano of Bluffen, SC, her brother-in-law Michael Clausen of Wright, MO, several nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis with whom she shared life for almost 63 years.

Robert was born on Aug. 8, 1948 in Clinton, the son of Robert and Edna (Iverson) McClelland I. He worked as a pressman at International Paper, Clinton. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his dog, Angel.
Robert is survived by his two children, Robert (Laura) McClelland III of Fulton, IL and Angela (Kevin) McClelland-Baxter of The Colony, TX; three grandchildren, Terrence, Madison, and Makayla; two sisters, Mary McClain of Clinton and Betty Mohr of Youngtown, AZ; and a brother, Arthur (Tina) McClelland of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.

Lillian M. Chandler age 84 of Clinton passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 12:00 noon until the service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lillian was born on July 12, 1930 in Madrid, IA, the daughter of John L. and Lillian A. (Ashton) Walker. She graduated from Boone High School in 1950. She married Robert Chandler on January 2, 1951 in Boone, IA; he died in 2007. Lillian worked as a nurse’s assistant in the OB Department at Mercy Hospital in Clinton for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she volunteered on many occasions. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, retirement luncheons with her co-workers, bowling, playing cards and coffee time with friends. She was known for her magic hands as she would massage expecting mothers at Mercy, who loved her back rubs, as did her family and friends.
Lillian is survived by her four children, Leeann Remrey, Lori (Tom) Bass, Robert (Gail) Chandler, and Garrett (Beth) Chandler all of Clinton; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson; a sister, Dorothy; a brother George and a son-in-law, Bill Remrey. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

Daniel A. “Dan” Feller, age 63, of Camanche, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral time Saturday at the funeral home. Following the services cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
Dan was born in Dubuque on April 22, 1952, the son of John and Marian (Jungk) Feller. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1971 and attended Clinton Community College. Dan married Laura Green Johnson on June 1, 1985 in Clinton. He was employed with the Chicago Northwestern and later Union Pacific Railroad. Dan was in the drum line for the Colt 45 Drum and Bugle Corp in Dubuque and was a drum instructor for the Nee Hi’s Drum and Bugle Corps in Clinton. He also volunteered as a caller for bingo for the Nee Hi’s. Dan enjoyed being with his family and was an eagle and train collector.
Dan is survived by his wife Laura; two children, Chad Feller and Tisha Sanchez both of Mesa, AZ; four step-children, Carole Johnson of Clinton, Tammy Johnson of Edinberg, TX, Cindy Johnson-Stewart of Clinton and Beth (Jared) Matje of Clinton; nine grandchildren; six siblings, Marilyn (Don) Wasmundt of Dubuque, Karen (Jim) Wieland of Rock Island, John (Donna) Feller of Dubuque; Linda (Randy) Prater of Loveland, CO; his twin brother, Richard (Sharon) Feller of Dubuque and Sue Feller of Berthoud, CO; a sister-in-law, Patty Feller of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born April 26, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Mabel Mathiesen. After graduating from Lyons High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served in the Korean War as a Flight Engineer at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Verla Carstensen on July 7, 1951; celebrating 49 years together. During those 49 years they took many family vacations to Minnesota and also traveled to Hawaii & Denmark together. They also enjoyed monthly steak fries with good friends.
Bob was a member of the Clinton Fire Department for 35 years and retired as Assistant Chief & was also skilled as a mechanic and electrician. He was a member of the V.F.W., served as Post Commander for 4 years and was appointed Aide de Camp from 1995 to 1996. He was the Commissioner of Little League baseball for 2 years and managed his son’s teams for 7 years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
Later in life, Bob was a resident of Bickford Cottage in Clinton where he gardened in the court yard planting flowers and vegetables and also built bird houses. He attended the Korean Honor flight to Washington D.C. in 2012.
Mourning his death are his sons, David Mathiesen (Peggy) of Loveland, Colorado, Terry Mathiesen (Lisa) of Swisher, Iowa, James Mathiesen (Mari) of Clinton, Iowa, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verla in 2000, and a sister, Doris in 2014.

Eugene was born on Nov. 17, 1925 in Ocala, FL, the son of Edgar and Lynda (Reich) Wolf. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944 and later from the University of Iowa in 1948. He married Dolores Dawes on Sept. 27, 1958 in Clinton. He worked as a cameraman for Pinney Printing Company from 1954-1994. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge; he was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Emulation Lodge #255. He enjoyed boating, going to the cabin, and loved animals.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Dolores Wolf of Clinton and several nieces and nephews including, Marianne Hannon, Susan (Martin) Curley, and Thomas (Stephanie) Hannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Loretta was born on Sept. 1, 1917 in Clinton, the daughter of John and Elsie (Carstensen) Johnson. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1936. She married Courtland Pieper, Sr. on Dec. 17, 1939 in Davenport; he died in 1986. She was a homemaker and a former member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Clinton. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #65, White Shrine, and had received the Grand Cross of the Colors of Rainbow. She enjoyed baking and playing Bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Loretta is survived by her three children, Courtland (Darlene) Pieper, Jr. of Port Byron, IL, Robert (Bonnie) Pieper of Preston, IA, and Sharon (Lou) Jackson-Spinka of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Maria, Jay, Amy, Troy, and B.J. and 3 great grandchildren.
