Helene was born on Nov. 17, 1925 in Hazelcrest, IL, the daughter of Uros and Mika (Mrynak) Sorak. She married Michael Vulich on Feb. 12, 1949 in Chicago, IL; he died in 1983. Helene was a homemaker and member of the Church of the Open Door. She enjoyed sewing, bible study, and crossword puzzles.
Helene is survived by her two sons, Jeff Vulich of Clinton and Evan (Lori) Vulich of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Lindsey, Brittany, Michael, and Aaron; two great grandchildren, Layla Jane and James; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Susan in 2012, seven sisters, and three brothers.

Molly Schepler age 70 of Bryant passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 22nd at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, and from 9:30 A.M. until the service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dean Chrest, Robert Schepler, Don Peters, David Greve, Leslie “Pee Wee” Johnson and Nathan Burken. Molly was born in Clinton on January 27, 1945, the daughter of Emil and Ethel Mae (Hansen) Seeser. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1963. Molly married Mert Schepler on June 7, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Molly and her husband farmed near Bryant for many years and she also drove a school bus for the Northeast School District for 27 years. She was a very active member of Ascension Lutheran Church where she served as a member and past president of the church council, taught Sunday school and Bible Study. She enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, trips to Minnesota and Wisconsin and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren in following all their sports and activities.
Survivors include her husband, Mert; four children, Dawn and Mark King of Marion, IA, Randy and Theresa Schepler of Hubert, NC, Shelly and Mike Schultz of Clinton and Amanda Schepler of Bryant; ten grandchildren; a great grandson, Eli Allen King; three sisters, Nancy (Bill) Simpson of Florida, Grace (Vern) Galant of Clinton and Kathy (David) Burken of Clinton; a brother, David (Mary) Seeser of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. Bill was born on June 8, 1930 in Clinton, the son of August and Gladys (Poole) Schmidt.
He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He married Rosella Jensen on Nov. 25, 1954 in DeWitt, IA. He worked as a mechanic at Climax Engines in Clinton for many years and later for Kunau Implement in Preston. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, the Good Sam Camping Club, and was an avid antique collector.
Bill is survived by his wife, Rosella Schmidt of Clinton; three children, Roxann (Jesse) Cram of Bellevue, IA, Bonnie (Vince) McMahon of Ocklawaha, FL, and Bill (Jamie) Schmidt, Jr. of Miles, IA; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Vince, Crystal, Jolene, Mordecai, Tony, Steele, and Paige; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Julie in 2008, a son, Jeffery in 1963, three brothers, and a sister.

Pearl was born on March 28, 1926 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Alvin and Emma (Shumacher) Cromer. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1944. She married Arthur Ketelsen on Aug. 25, 1946 in Clinton; he died in 2012. Pearl was a homemaker and worked as a supervisor at Oxford Speaker Company in Sabula, IA for over 16 years. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Sabula. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and embroidery.
Pearl is survived by her three daughters, Judith (Gary) Gibson of Warren, IL, Lynne Mangler of Sabula, and Teresa (Brian) Goetze of Cambridge, IL; two sons, Allan Ketelsen of Sabula and Joel (Amy) Ketelsen of Camanche; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her brother, Paul (Nancy) Cromer of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gregg, three brothers, and a sister.

Delores “Dee” L. Brown, age 74, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at her home following a short illness. A gathering of family and friends and memorial service took place on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial was in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Dee was born in South Bend, WA on April 6, 1941, the daughter of Lee and Edith (Emerson) Caldwell. She graduated from South Bend High School in 1960. Dee married Jerry Karl Brown on June 16, 1972 in Arlington, TX. They were married for 40 years. Following Jerry’s retirement from the Navy they settled in Othello, WA. Jerry passed away on March 10, 2013 and Dee moved to Clinton to be with her family and grandchildren. Dee had worked in several different locations as she and Jerry moved throughout the country during his 25 years in the service, from shucking oysters after high school to a dietary supervisor. She never had a bad word to say about anybody and always saw the good in people. She was a loyal Seattle Seahawk and Seattle Mariners fan and enjoyed going to the casino and following the Lumberkings.
Dee is survived by her daughter Patty (Denise) Cassell of Clinton; five grandchildren, Jessica and Josh Lingle, Alice (Tom) Drummond, Elizabeth (Scott) Birdsley and Aleshia (Matt) Hogreve; six great grandchildren, Rylan, Olivia, Natalie, Gavin, Gabriel and Lauren; one brother, Don (Caroline) Caldwell of John Day, OR; two sisters, Dorothy (Lloyd) Heater of Kamiah, ID and Diane (Dennis) Hull of George, WA; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Skippy. Jack was born on Nov. 20, 1919 in Clinton, the son of Earl and Edith (Turner) Dahl. He married Helen Determann on April 16, 1941 in Clinton. Jack was a Master welder with the former Clinton Corn Processing for many years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, the outdoors, watching the Cubs and Twins, and spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his four grandchildren, Chris Dahl of Jacksonville, FL, Geoff Dahl of Marion, IA, Shari Knox of Bettendorf, IA, and Heather (Rick) Maas of Grinnell, IA; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Earl Dahl Jr. of CA; and two daughter-in-laws, Bonnie Dahl of Clinton and Linda Dahl of Davenport. Madonna was born in Cordova, IL on October 3, 1923, the daughter of Raymond G. and Ellen (Enwright) Sullivan. She graduated from Our Lady of Angels Academy and St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Madonna married Charles Klaes on October 25, 1947 in Clinton. Charlie passed away in 1988. Madonna was a Registered Nurse at both St. Joseph Mercy and later Jane Lamb Hospitals had worked at the Fashion Shoppe on Main Ave. and with her husband, owned and operated Charlie’s Supper Club. Madonna was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the TRI-S Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.

Sister Joan Holland, OSF, age 81 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at The Canticle, 843 13th Ave. No. in Clinton with the Rev. Jim Bergen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at The Canticle where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. and a scripture service held at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting.
Sister Joan Holland was born November 14, 1933, in Vail, IA, the eighth of eleven children of John J. and Blanche (Lorenzen) Holland. She was baptized Jeanne Ann on November 21, 1933, at St. Ann Church in Vail. She had seven brothers, John, Joseph, Thomas, Doyle C., James, Patrick, Frank and three sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Carol. Jeanne attended Holy Angels School in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from Denison Public High School, Denison, IA.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Clare Convent, Clinton, IA on September 8, 1952, and received the name Sister Joan of Arc at her reception. She was later known simply as Sister Joan. She professed perpetual vows on August 12, 1958.
Sister Joan attended Mount St. Clare College and received a bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA. She held a Life Teaching Certificate from California.
Sister Joan’s love of children and joyful spirit of service were evident in her ministry as a talented and beloved teacher. Her first missions were at St. Rita School in Cameron, MO and at St. Mary School in Hawarden, IA. The remainder of her active ministry was in California where she served at schools in Riverside, Reedley, Chino, and Fontana. Sr. Joan was not only interested in her students’ academic growth, but in their spiritual and emotional growth as well. At the end of her career, she spent fourteen years at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Riverside, California, first as a teacher and then as Spiritual Campus Minister for the students.
Sr. Joan retired at the Canticle in July of 2011. She moved to the Alverno in November, 2013. Her on going courage, and faith in God were an inspiration not only to the Sisters with whom she shared community but also to her caregivers and the residents at the Alverno.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven brothers, and her sisters Mary Holland and Cathy Clausen. She is survived by her sister Carol Cavano of Bluffen, SC, her brother-in-law Michael Clausen of Wright, MO, several nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis with whom she shared life for almost 63 years.

Robert was born on Aug. 8, 1948 in Clinton, the son of Robert and Edna (Iverson) McClelland I. He worked as a pressman at International Paper, Clinton. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his dog, Angel.
Robert is survived by his two children, Robert (Laura) McClelland III of Fulton, IL and Angela (Kevin) McClelland-Baxter of The Colony, TX; three grandchildren, Terrence, Madison, and Makayla; two sisters, Mary McClain of Clinton and Betty Mohr of Youngtown, AZ; and a brother, Arthur (Tina) McClelland of Clinton.
