Lillian M. Chandler age 84 of Clinton passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 12:00 noon until the service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jesse and Derek Gabel, David Peters, Brian Menier, Chandler James and Ron Cherek.

Lillian was born on July 12, 1930 in Madrid, IA, the daughter of John L. and Lillian A. (Ashton) Walker. She graduated from Boone High School in 1950. She married Robert Chandler on January 2, 1951 in Boone, IA; he died in 2007. Lillian worked as a nurse’s assistant in the OB Department at Mercy Hospital in Clinton for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she volunteered on many occasions. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, retirement luncheons with her co-workers, bowling, playing cards and coffee time with friends. She was known for her magic hands as she would massage expecting mothers at Mercy, who loved her back rubs, as did her family and friends.

Lillian is survived by her four children, Leeann Remrey, Lori (Tom) Bass, Robert (Gail) Chandler, and Garrett (Beth) Chandler all of Clinton; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson; a sister, Dorothy; a brother George and a son-in-law, Bill Remrey. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

Daniel A. “Dan” Feller, age 63, of Camanche, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral time Saturday at the funeral home. Following the services cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.

Dan was born in Dubuque on April 22, 1952, the son of John and Marian (Jungk) Feller. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1971 and attended Clinton Community College. Dan married Laura Green Johnson on June 1, 1985 in Clinton. He was employed with the Chicago Northwestern and later Union Pacific Railroad. Dan was in the drum line for the Colt 45 Drum and Bugle Corp in Dubuque and was a drum instructor for the Nee Hi’s Drum and Bugle Corps in Clinton. He also volunteered as a caller for bingo for the Nee Hi’s. Dan enjoyed being with his family and was an eagle and train collector.

Dan is survived by his wife Laura; two children, Chad Feller and Tisha Sanchez both of Mesa, AZ; four step-children, Carole Johnson of Clinton, Tammy Johnson of Edinberg, TX, Cindy Johnson-Stewart of Clinton and Beth (Jared) Matje of Clinton; nine grandchildren; six siblings, Marilyn (Don) Wasmundt of Dubuque, Karen (Jim) Wieland of Rock Island, John (Donna) Feller of Dubuque; Linda (Randy) Prater of Loveland, CO; his twin brother, Richard (Sharon) Feller of Dubuque and Sue Feller of Berthoud, CO; a sister-in-law, Patty Feller of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. Robert "Bob" G. Mathiesen - 85

Robert (Bob) Glenn Mathiesen, age 85 of Clinton, passed away on Friday May 15, 2015 at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton, Iowa. Bob was born April 26, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Mabel Mathiesen. After graduating from Lyons High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served in the Korean War as a Flight Engineer at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Verla Carstensen on July 7, 1951; celebrating 49 years together. During those 49 years they took many family vacations to Minnesota and also traveled to Hawaii & Denmark together. They also enjoyed monthly steak fries with good friends.

Bob was a member of the Clinton Fire Department for 35 years and retired as Assistant Chief & was also skilled as a mechanic and electrician. He was a member of the V.F.W., served as Post Commander for 4 years and was appointed Aide de Camp from 1995 to 1996. He was the Commissioner of Little League baseball for 2 years and managed his son’s teams for 7 years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.

Later in life, Bob was a resident of Bickford Cottage in Clinton where he gardened in the court yard planting flowers and vegetables and also built bird houses. He attended the Korean Honor flight to Washington D.C. in 2012.

Mourning his death are his sons, David Mathiesen (Peggy) of Loveland, Colorado, Terry Mathiesen (Lisa) of Swisher, Iowa, James Mathiesen (Mari) of Clinton, Iowa, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verla in 2000, and a sister, Doris in 2014.

Eugene was born on Nov. 17, 1925 in Ocala, FL, the son of Edgar and Lynda (Reich) Wolf. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944 and later from the University of Iowa in 1948. He married Dolores Dawes on Sept. 27, 1958 in Clinton. He worked as a cameraman for Pinney Printing Company from 1954-1994. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge; he was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Emulation Lodge #255. He enjoyed boating, going to the cabin, and loved animals.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Dolores Wolf of Clinton and several nieces and nephews including, Marianne Hannon, Susan (Martin) Curley, and Thomas (Stephanie) Hannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Loretta was born on Sept. 1, 1917 in Clinton, the daughter of John and Elsie (Carstensen) Johnson. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1936. She married Courtland Pieper, Sr. on Dec. 17, 1939 in Davenport; he died in 1986. She was a homemaker and a former member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Clinton. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #65, White Shrine, and had received the Grand Cross of the Colors of Rainbow. She enjoyed baking and playing Bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Loretta is survived by her three children, Courtland (Darlene) Pieper, Jr. of Port Byron, IL, Robert (Bonnie) Pieper of Preston, IA, and Sharon (Lou) Jackson-Spinka of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Maria, Jay, Amy, Troy, and B.J. and 3 great grandchildren. John was born on April 27, 1966 in Clinton, the son of Clyde and Irene “Pat” (Hinz) Howes. He was a member of the former St. Irenaeus Church. John was a very caring person. He enjoyed playing cards and would give the shirt off his back if it would help others. He loved being in the outdoors.

John is survived by his fiancée, Lori Winkler of Clinton; two daughters, Serenity Howes of Clinton and Cassandra “Cassy” Clark and her mother, Shelly Hernandez Clark both of Clinton; three sisters, Anna (Keith) Doucette, Julie Anderson, and Christy Ketelsen all of Clinton; 4 grandchildren; a niece, Chevelle (Eric) Sopkin and their son, Isaac of Portland, OR; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Carol was born on Nov. 1, 1940 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Albert and Adeline (Thiessen) Blount. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1958. She married Ronald Lampe on Nov. 17, 1959 in Dover, DE, where Ronald was stationed in the Air Force. Carol worked as a realtor for Mel Foster in Davenport and for over 20 years in admissions for Genesis West Medical Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Clinton.

Carol is survived by her husband, Ronald Lampe of Clinton; her five children, Robert Lampe of Marion, IA, Deana (Robert) Fuller of Clinton, Sandra (Mike) Alvarez of Pflugerville, TX, Steve (Suzie) Lampe of Coralville, IA, and Brenda Lampe of Clinton; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, and a sister.

Edward Karr - 87

Edward Karr age 87 of Clinton, passed away on Thursday April 30th, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Pape Funeral Home. According to his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. 

Edward Eliga Karr was born September 24, 1927 in Crookston, MN, the son of E.E. and Helen (Bland) Karr. Edward married Linda Becker on June 14, 1990 in Clinton. In his younger years, Edward was a Merchant Marine. He worked as a troubleshooter on Texaco oil rigs and later became a journeyman electrician with IBEW #145. Edward did volunteer electrical work at the Clinton Discovery Center and the Symphony of Lights. He was a member of the Eagles Club, CERT and Alumni of the Citizens Police Academy. Edward enjoyed cooking for local fireman and taking care of his three Yorkies.

Edward is survived by his wife Linda, three children; Jodi (Ken) Housenga of Fulton, IL, Vicki (John) Gruhn of Sabula, IA and Richard (Ann) Mojeiko of Clinton, 8 grandchildren and a brother William Karr of Clarksville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Lee was born in Moline, IL on July 14, 1952, the son of Lee Sr. and Viola (Warfield) Sweely. He married Jody Webb on May 2, 1980 in Clinton. Lee worked as a lab tech at ADM for 32 years before retiring in 2010. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, hunting and wood working.

Lee is survived by his wife Jody, three children; Corey (Jennifer) Sweely of Camanche, Lindsay Alexander of Jefferson, WI and Jeremy (Leah) Sweely of Clinton, 12 grandchildren; Mitchell, Ashlee, Damian, Kaitlyn, Alexis, Elyssa, Jonah, Jaycee, Clayton, Carson, Brianna and Barin, three sisters; Bonnie Casey of Fulton, Shirley King of Wells, NV and Becky (Jerry) Barton of Davenport, many nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Christopher in 2012 and a brother Robert.

Margaret was born on Feb. 28, 1928 in Clinton, the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Ewing) Oliver. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1946. She married Warren Young on Feb. 14, 1948 in Clinton. Margaret was a homemaker and a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church. She delivered Clinton Mobile Meals for over 30 years. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Warren Young of Clinton; two daughters, Karen Young of Waterloo, IA and Susan (Mike) Robinson of Andalusia, IL; her son, David (Carol) Young of Santa Fe, NM; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her brother, Edward Oliver of Zephyr Hills, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Douglas in 2007, her great grandson, Oliver Palmer, a brother, and five sisters.
