Gladys Hoffman, age 89 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service time Friday at Prince of Peace. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Gladys was born in Scranton, Iowa on September 1, 1930, the daughter of Milferd and Vera (Hartwigsen) Garnett. She graduated from Scranton High School and received her RN training in Carroll, Iowa. She married Leonard Hoffman on January 3, 1953 in Carroll, Iowa. Leonard passed away on December 26, 1994. Gladys was an RN at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. Following her retirement she did in home day care. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Prince of Peace Auxiliary, Bible Study and Book Club. She had been a former member of St. Irenaeus Church. Gladys volunteered with Mobile Meals and helped tutor adults working towards their GED. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was an avid gardener.
Gladys is survived by two children; Karen (Mike) Miller and David Hoffman both of Clinton; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kristina (Brian) Bauer and her children Gage and Gretchen; Stephanie Miller and her son Lucas, and Kym Rose and her children Nykko and Dylan; a brother, Carl Garnett of Jefferson, Iowa; 4 sisters, Lucille (Scott) Cadwell of Adel, Iowa, Doris (Vince) Kennedy, Darlene Taggart and Harriet (Byron) Paup all of Jefferson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great granddaughter, Kylie; a sister Virginia Vernon and a brother, Donald Garnett. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
